I know this is last minute, but Erica from Goose Island Clybourn just emailed me to invite us to pour at their annual Stout Fest at GI-Clybourn from noon-4pm Sunday March 13. Before I commit us (she is currently holding a spot for our club) I'd like to confirm that we would be able to pour 3-5 really good stouts (keg or bottled) and that the brewer of those stouts would be avilable to attend the event to pour their beer and discuss it with attendees. We participated in the Belgian/sour Fest last year and it was great exposure for our club and a lot of fun for those who attended. I have some stouts I can bring, but I would need to rework my schedule in order to attend, which is a possibility.
Can I get your input today if this is something we can do as a club? Please provide your comments.
Erica said the other breweries are capped, but she is holding a place for us untill we can commit or not.
Thanks, Nancy
I had a blast at belgian fest, so I'd be happy to brew up a stout for this.
How does the american stout recipe out of brewing classic style sound?
A classic American Stout would be good. The Stouts I have on hand are all experimental.
So Boolish is in, anyone else?
I sent Nancy a message separately based on the other thread: I'm in! Keep in mind that this is the day after our Wisconsin bus trip, so plan on taking it easy on that if you're attending Stout Fest ;-)
Here is the Beer List

For those donating beer to the event, they posted a pour list:

Rumor has it Nancy already planning on sneaking in a growler filler for dat Vanilla Abraxas
I can already feel the late-afternoon hangover forming
We'll see if Vanilla Abraxas is on par with Richapu or not. I'm going to skip two or three of those so I should be ok.
FYI - I need to turn in our Beer menu to GI Clybourn EOD Friday March 4, so the spreadsheet will go on look down at 5pm Friday. Please update your beer info, name, description, and ABV.
Thanks, Nanc
Just updated mine.
Do you have info on what time we should be there, where we should go, that kind of thing? Do we need to bring CO2? I've got a tank with two regulators, but I'll need to find time to have it filled before then if we need it.
From Goose:
Please bring the following:
- Tapbox with CO2
- Minimum 0.5 BBL’s of beer
- POS, signage, etc.
- Up to 4 representatives to pour
You’re welcome to drop beer and equipment off beginning March 7th, as well as leave them after the event. We encourage public transit, not only for safety but while our parking lots are free, space is limited. If you do choose to use our space for storage, please be prompt to pick your equipment up in the days after the event.
We’re asking for attending breweries to arrive by 9am, and ready to pour by 11am when the doors open for our VIP group. Doors open to the general public at Noon. We will have a full breakfast available for brewers and staff before the event starts.
I'm going to assume that they're OK with the fact that we won't have a half-barrel of anything.
I'll swing by NFC this weekend to get CO2. Should we take a club jockey box?
Yeah, that's more for the pro brewers attending.
If you can grab the jockey box that would be great,
It just occurred to me that none of the three of us going have a car, do we? I'm not going to be able to juggle a keg, CO2 tank, and jockey box in a cab. Maybe Boollish can bring the jockey box? Failing that, we can probably make do with picnic taps, though we may also need to bring buckets and ice for kegs then, I don't know.
I can ask my sister to help transport our stuff. She Ubers on Saturdays in the city.
Clean and sanitize the jockey box when done, please!
Nancy: that would be awesome! I can get my own stuff there no problem, I just can't handle a jockey box on top of it. I'll be at the brewhouse this weekend and can make sure one of the jockey boxes is cleaned out and ready to go.
I'm still not sure how best to juggle all this. We could meet at the brewhouse first thing in the morning and head over together, but that's well out of the way for at least two of us. Maybe James can bring the jockey box along. Or, if someone has a smaller CO2 solution that'll work, I can bring the jockey box instead of the 10lb tank.
Either way, I want to make sure we know how we're doing this by Sunday so I can pick things up from (or drop things off at) the brewhouse ahead of time if need be.
Last time we met at the brew house early morning and spent roughly an hour getting stuff in order. Brock, we can borrow a club regulator if you are willing to donate your tank for the event.
I'm happy to bring my tank and regulators, I'm just saying that with a tank in one hand and a keg in the other, I won't have a hand frree for a jockey box :-)
One of the taps on the old two-tap jockey box is leaky, so I checked two of the taps on one of the new four-tap boxes. Thankfully, it was properly cleaned last time and still had sanitizer in the lines. I left a tag on it so we grab the right one.
I just realized that we lose an hour Saturday night. Sunday morning is going to be rough.
Did we decide on a time to meet at the brewhouse? If we're supposed to be to GI at 9, we could probably meet around 8:30, grab the jockey box and businss cards and such, and go from there.
8:30 at the brewhouse sounds fine.
I will be there on Friday brewing in any case so I can at least make sure that some of the heavy equipment is ready to take out of the door.
As a matter of experience, we should also plan on borrowing the club channel locks and/or wrenches for the day.
We can definitely bring tools, though I would recommend you rebuild your keg before we arrive at the event.
Hey guys, the beers I'm planning on brining are bottled, so I'm all set. I've asked my sister Margie, who does uber/lyft on the weekends, to help us transport on Sunday. She's awesome. Please have your beer and equipment needed for the event ready to go at the brewhouse by 8:30am Sunday morning. Please clearly state/label so we can just swing by and pick-up they items without having to hunt around the brewhouse.
We should also plan on bringing our vinyl CHAOS banner. I will most likely not be at the brewhouse priror to Sunday so can both or one of you be responsible for prepping the items needed? If you'd like to meet there on Sunday at 8:30am and ride over together, we can also do that.
Any other questions?
Thanks, Nanc
Thanks Margie! I'll meet you there Sunday morning to drive over with you.
James: could you look for the banner on Friday while you're there? I can do some digging Saturday morning before the bus trip too if need be. No idea where that thing might be.
I know its super last minute but I have a keg of my imperial mocha stout I could donate as well as help out.
Lemme know if I am wayyyyy to late.
Waayyyyyyyy too late. We had to send them a menu last week. We might be able to take and serve your beer, but I'd highly doubt you can get into the event at this point.
