CHAOS Board of Directors Special Election! – Official Nomination & Information Post

On September 20, 2015 CHAOS Brew Club will be having a special election to fill two board of director positions that have two different term lengths (one ending in April 2017 and one ending April 2018).

This post is the official Nomination Post for members to nominate themselves or another to fill the positions.  Please comment on this thread to make your nominations and discuss candidates only.

Directors will be elected at our September General Member Meeting (6pm at CHAOS Brew Club - 2417 W. Hubbard St. 60612) where candidates will be introduced, allowed to talk briefly about themselves & their goals/vision for CHAOS in ballot order.

Once we hear from all of the candidates voting will occur via secret ballot and winners announced once they are counted.  The candidate with the highest number of votes will receive the term ending in April 2018 and the runner-up will fill vacancy that expires in April 2017.

Absentee voting will occur via email and details will be sent to all CHAOS members a week before the September 20th meeting.

---

Board of Director Member Responsibilities includes (but are not limited to):

  • Must be present at a minimum of 4 (out of 6) bi-monthly board meetings (attendance may be via telephone, i.e., someone who is present putting you on speaker phone);
  • Must contribute time and energy continually and substantially to the benefit of the club. This may include but is certainly not limited to: being present at club events (classes, festivals, etc.); organizing and arranging the brew house; participating in online and in-person discussions.
  • Discussing – and subsequently approving/denying – requests and proposals from Officers;
  • Making contacts and reaching out to people on behalf of the club (including potential and current partners);

Directors can, should, and will be subject to removal “with or without cause” (according to the bylaws) by simple majority vote of the other board of directors. Basically what that means is that Directors must indeed continually and substantially devote time and energy to the club lest other directors deem you are not “pulling your weight” and vote you off the island.

I nominate Brock Boland and

I nominate Brock Boland and Mike Struck. With my interactions, both have shown they're extremely knowledgeable about brewing, constantly around the brewhouse, and just gosh darn nice folk.

As deeply flattered as I am

As deeply flattered as I am by the nomination, I'm afraid I must decline to take part in this one. I'd love to do more for CHAOS, but just don't have the time available to do so in the foreseeable future.

Definitely second both Mike and Joe, though!

I'm nominating myself for the

I'm nominating myself for the shorter term. I have been a board member in the past, and I felt it was good to step out and let someone new in. However, my recent work on redesigning the CHAOS website has made me realize that I need to step up again.

Over the Summer I have been training myself in the use of Drupal, and developing the information architecture for our new website. This Fall I will be working on the visual design and developing the new site framework.

My goals for the next year:
1. Design & Build a mobile friendly website
2. Create content to better sell the club to potential members and partners
3. Help Apprentice members connect with brewers
4. Enhance the brewhouse reservation system to track projects
5. Develop online volunteer sign-up sheets that record member time and effort
6. Geo-locate CHAOS partners and help members act on deals near them

Conrad, Lucas, and Brock will be helping a great deal, but I am functioning as the design lead, and I will be doing most of the grunt work over a couple hundred work hours. As one of the original members of CHAOS, I have used design to help shape the club's culture and identity.

One of the more exciting ideas I'm developing is a page called "The Hall of Alchemy", which will display pics and bios of Alchemist members, as well as awards they have one. We also need to promote the fact that CHAOS has functioned like an incubator for developing professional craft brewers, and many Alchemists have moved on to becoming award winning brewers.

I see the website redesign as a chance to cement what we have accomplished and provide the communication tools we need to function better and grow the club

Unfortunately, we pushed our meeting date to occur during a vacation I planned months ago. Oh yeah, that awkward moment when you just wrote a great pitch for an election you will not be able to attend (FML).

Oh well, considering the club broke my regulator in San Diego, and then someone took my new regulator and tank after Summer BrewBQ, I could use a win here.

Vote for Steven.
A happier Steven is more likely to finish your website.
We need this.
