So, the last three times I've brewed my fermentors have had huge blowovers and have made messes that have needed cleaning in the ferm room :-(. I'm adding fermcap both during the boil and when I pitch the yeast. Also, there's plenty of room as I'm using a 6.5 gallon fermenters for 5 gallon bathes. Additionally, I'm using huge blow-off tubes into a jar of Starsan.
Does anyone have any other ideas? Am I doing something wrong? I'd really like to keep this from happening for a whole bunch of reasons.
You could always spit it between 2 carboys. Loosing beer is no fun.
Use bigger blow-off receptacles. I usually use one growler per carboy and even then I myself have had some overflows. Sometimes I use a homer bucket for two carboys and have never had a problem with that setup.
