Keezer Tips

In light of the developin Kegging Workshop occuring, and not wanting to jack that thread, I thought I'd start this one on a related topic for those interested to use as a jumping off point on their own research and for those of us with keezers to show off our systems (Lucas!) and talk about what we have and why.  My personal keezer is low tech and not impressive, but it lagers my beers and keeps ones ready to drink cold, I haven't had the time or money to make a collar and add taps, so if I want a beer I flip the lid and grab a picnic tap.  It works out well for now.  I need to get a splitter for my gas as well so I can carb more than 2 kegs.  I have an 8.8 cu ft. and it fits 4 on the floor.  As soon as I got it I figured out how important dehumidifying it is, it quickly built up ice and condensation on the interior walls.  I got an EvaDry unit which sucked...it didn't dehumidify anything until I got a little fan pointed at it.  The fan has the dual purpose of circulating the air, keeping it from stratifying, and pushing it all through the dehumidifier.  It does a pretty good job of keeping it dry most of the time, If I open it a lot depending on outside humidity it may get a little moist, but it gets saoked up by the dehumidifier once it gets a chance to.  Also, I usually keep mine at 39 +/- 2 and I leave my probe swinging in the breeze, my logic is that if I measure liquid temp by the time the liquid raises 2 degrees the surrounding air is gonna be a lot warmer than that, so If I measure air temp the keezer may cycle on a bit more but it's workload will be far less amd the liquid will stay at a more constant temp, theoretically.  39 is a bit cold for serving and a tiny bit warm for lagering, but it's a happy medium between the 2.  Also, at 39 since the gas shrinks as it cools, your tank pressure gauge will always read empty even after a fill...Below is a parts list of what I use.

Gas Equipment, hoses, couplers, Taprite dual Gauge and aluminium tank from NFC Gas, local guys, prices are slightly higher than what you'd pay on the internet but they take care of their customers, the assembled everything for me, checked it for leaks, whole 9 yards all for no extra cost.   Get a 10lb tank, not much more than a five to purchase or to fill, you'll save money.

Kegs from Corny Keg Depot on facebook.  Dudes out in Elgin, sells great kegs at great prices, follow him on facebook and rush to get him a message to reserve your kegs before he runs out.  kegs are getting scarce.

Johnson A419...it does what you want it to, does it very well, no wiring no mods just plug it in, set it and forget it http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00368D6JA/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd...

My fan, super quite, moves a lot of air, and I didnt have to wire it or screw around with it, plugs straight in to the wall.  http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G059G86?psc=1
