We're trying something new @ CHAOS. We now have house specialty grain for purchase upstairs. We're starting with a pilot only, if it works, we'll expand the program.
Currently we have:
DextraPils, C60 and C120
Here's how it works -
1. Each sealed bin has a scoop, measure out your grain with the scale provided.
2. Record your purchase in the log book - all grain is $1.20 per pound (30 cents for 4 oz, 60 cents 1/2#)
3. Drop your cash in the box.
If you don't have cash - just write owe next to the grain name line in the book. Cross it off when you pay. please don't abuse it. If people use house speciality grain we'll maintain and expand it. If it goes unused, or people can't use the honor system, it goes away. Next up would be a few more grains, then Omega yeast.
Thanks!
This is an awesome idea! I sure hope people don't abuse it.
I would like to put a request in for lots and lots and lots of 2 row! And maybe once it gets bigger to have a google sheet accessible under the "Brewhouse" tab at the top that can keep track of how much we have left so people could have an idea of what's left before heading to the brewhouse.
Fingers crossed, I really want this to work.
Would it be wise to have people send their payements to the chaos paypal or will that give jim vondracek a migrane?
We have transaction charges with paypal - which means I can't take a $1.00 payment without losing money.
Bottle caps would be useful in the chaos store.
Bump to suggest keeping this or another intentionally titled thread as a list of every ingredient the club offers to purchase. If no one does it before I'm there next I'll do it. But if someone can conveniently list the grain or has a something they can copy and paste with no effort I'd appreciate it. I'm making a recipe at home right now.
Eric, the grain list on the wall, above the scale is current. Do to a shortage of Pilsner, we haven't been able to provide it for sale upstairs.
Eric... message James Faircloth. I think there is Pilsner upstairs now as of today from what I saw him post.
Yes, Pilsner is now in a 30gal tub with a label on the lid. We should be sitting on 110#s...

Does anyone know who's 1/3 sack of Pilsner malt has been sitting on the shelf across from the bar?
I don't know, but this is fair warning that if I don't hear someone claim it by tonight it's getting moved upstairs. Party this weekend and way to warm outside for it to be up front for that long.
Well... While we're on the topic of proper grain storage... All off the windows in the grain store area are open and we had that heavy rain yesterday. Some grain is in Blue Drums, but other grain is still in bags and out in the open (on a high shelf).
That's potentially changing the moisture % of the grain...
Thoughts?
