Q's about Club Chiller

Anyone test how much beer is lost in the chiller if its not purged out? I did a beer last week and it seemed like it was close to a gallon. For those that have purged with starsan have you had any problems with it dilluting that last .5-1 gallon you pushed out.

Also I know there are plans to put a switch on it but I have a heavy duty surge protector I'd be happy to loan  the club that can act as a switch until one is installed. Unplug/plugging for an on off seems like it can lead to damage

A gallon seems like a lot,

A gallon seems like a lot, but I've not tested it.  I'll let Matt answer the switch/surge protector question, since he's the lead on building it.

I'd say it's probably a quart

I'd say it's probably a quart to half gallon.  This is me watching the Starsan flow out as I wait for the wort to start.

I seem to experience the same

I seem to experience the same loss as James, usually between .25-.5 of a gallon.

I put a GFCI outlet on the

I put a GFCI outlet on the chiller today that also acts as a switch:

Also, from watching the water to star-san switch over, I'd say the loss is quarter to a half gallon as well. I would wager that the loss is less in this chiller than the previous one.

BTW, it's awesome. Brewing 10 gallons, it seriously cuts 30-45 minutes out of my brew day. It was pulling 66 degree wort today with no issues. I chilled a 10 gallon batch in about 15 minutes.

Adjust your brew to lose less

Adjust your brew to lose less then a half gallon from the chiller. Need to get a proper switch in there when I get the time.

Thanks Kyle for getting the GFCI so we all don't die.

Thanks Kyle for getting the GFCI so we all don't die.

I've been standing in a pool of PBW water while holding the power cord in my teeth, seemed safe to me.
