Hey gang,
So I’m strongly considering constructing my own pizza oven for my backyard this spring. We make pizza weekly in my house except in summer when 600F oven temps don’t fly. So figured take it outside. But grilled pizza kinda sucks and $3k fancy pizza oven kits are over budget. However, I think I can do a DYI one pretty cheap <$500.
I’m here on the Chaos board for 2 reasons. First, I’d like to invite interested people to take part in the building event (I’ve floated the idea to a few people and got strong positive response) It would be a fun 1/2-day project, plenty of beer and (my oven) pizza, probably a few good stories come out of it and really not much work for any one person. And maybe some people might take what they learn and try it in their own yard.
Which brings me to reason #2. Would Chaos be interested in building their own pizza oven in the back? It would be super cool for parties and events. It’s on-brand, with beer, grain and water and heat.
For my oven, I’m just gauging interest, I’ll have firmer details soon (interested people can DM me) But curious to hear folks’ thoughts on a chaos pizza oven.

I will definitely help you out if it works with my schedule - not sure I'd ever do it myself, but I'm pretty intrigued especially since I also make a lot of pizza (and bread).
Wrt the CHAOS thoughts, the immediate issues that jump out are taking up already precious back-lot space. It it were a static fixture, then we also may have issues with destruction or tampering from the local commuters and other denziens. Just the first things that fly into my head.
I'd be interested in helping out as well, Sean.
+1 to Kyle's thoughts on a permanent fixture. It would be total badass but I'm not sure it would fly with the landlord. Being that we just got new neighbors as well, I've seen that parking has been cramped at times in the back.
While a nice idea, the oven is not practical for our space. We can't erect a permanent fixture in the parking lot and there's no room in the brewhouse to store a mobile pizza oven.
Agree with Kyle, Jeff & Brandon. But I think it's awesome you're building one and would totally help!
Very cool, Sean. Here's a thread at homebrewtalk with links to a couple of pizza oven builds that other homebrewers have done https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/threads/build-your-own-brick-pizza-ov...
I'm happy to come over and watch you and others build your pizza oven, while drinking your beer - LOL!

I think it’s a badass idea and would love to help, if it works with my schedule. Sucks it wouldn’t work at CHAOS, but I agree with the above. I wouldn’t mind getting into making pizza and bread
OK it seems it's a 'NO" for the brewhouse but some ncie offers to participate in my home project. Thanks people. Perhaps when mine is complete it will change some minds about chaos pizza/bread oven feasibility.
I'll post some updates on the design process and figure out a date for the actual construction event. Anyone with ideas about design feel free to jump in.
UPDATE:
It looks like we are moving to Los Angeles. Won't know for sure until summertime, and move is probably not until next year, but for the time being this project is on hold/likely cancelled on my end. Now if anyone want to take take baton, be my guest.

Sorry, Sean, don't mean to hijack your thread, but concerning a pizza oven for the clubhouse, I will be dropping off a countertop pizza oven tonight that was donated to the club.

Oh Sean, I hope that would be good for you but your many friends here would miss you.

Congrats to your wife Sean! We'll be sad to see you go.
Pete, where is the pizza oven going to go?
Matt
It's going upstairs in the kitchen. Already worked it out with Jeff
