Beginning the evening of October 5 we will be migrating to our new website. As part of this process, the Ning site will be removed and no longer available for use so that we can migrate as much content as possible to the new site. After that time, the new site will be used exclusively and the current Ning site will no longer be available.
From your end, the migration will simply ask that you setup an account on the new site, which will be available at http://www.chaosbrewclub.net (Its not up yet, so going to that link will just bring you back here). Right now the web team, alchemists, and board are testing the site but in the coming two weeks we will be opening things up to general testing. I will post more information here, please check back to help us find the last few bugs that need squashing before we go live.
If you have any any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to reply to this forum posting or send me a message. Thanks!
I think this is very well written.
Only change I would make is the first sentences of the last paragraph, "and" should be "any."
So I got all the content migration stuff working last night aaand... I didn't like the way it looked having me be the only poster. So... we're going to migrate all of your accounts! Couple of issues to make everyone aware of:
Here's the text of the email I'm planning on sending to everyone on the Ning site this weekend to warn them. I will then have a second message ready to send to everyone after their accounts are migrated. Please give me your feedback.
Also, I'm planning on doing this migration from the brewhouse (or nearby if my MiFi device is bustimicated). If you bring your laptop that would be awesome, as you can go through the content (no tech experience required!) to help iron out and migration issues.

Hello,
As you may or may not be aware, CHAOS has been working to migrate from our current website running on the Ning service (http://chaosbrewclub.ning.com) to a new custom website built for our needs by several members (http://www.chaosbrewclub.net). There are several new features that we're looking forward to, including a better organization of discussions, an improved reservation system for brewhouse time, and the ability for the general public to view information about CHAOS without having to register. We're excited about this new site, as well as all of the other great changes coming to CHAOS, such as the new membership, brewhouse organization, and organizational structure.
Next Saturday, October 6, we will be performing the migration to the new site. As part of this process we are going to make our best effort possible to migrate all of the current discussions groups, images, and content to the new site so that it is still available. Sadly, this will not be a perfect process and so some things may get lost. If you have anything that is critical, please make sure to back it up within the next week! Included in this will be all of your current private messages. Sadly, Ning does not give us a way to easily gather that data, so there is no way for us to migrate it across to the new site.
Beginning sometime next Saturday, we will have a period of a few hours where both the old and new websites will be down while we perform the migration. During this time, if you have an urgent need for a CHAOS fix, please feel free to stop by the brewhouse as the web team will be there working. If you'd like, bring your laptop as we could use your help (No programming skills required!), I'll even try and have some pizza, food, and of course beer, on hand. An event will be posted to the Ning site this week with timing.
If you have any issues, notice and problems on the new site, or have any questions, please don't hestiate to let myself or any of the alchemists know either here on the Ning site via private message, or via email (lucas at chaosbrewclub.net).
Thanks!
Lucas
Oh... my... god. Why haven't we done this? http://thechive.com/2013/09/17/guys-rig-up-buddies-plumbing-with-beer-wh...
Fixed.

One big thing I see is 24-hour clock instead of 12-hour. Doesn't mess me up but it may be a bit weird for some....
Lucas, PayPal sent me an e-mail and apparently they didn't just cancel the costly PayFlow Link, they canceled the Payments Pro option as well. We currently have "Standard". Here's the link to the side-by-side comparisons. Let me know if Standard meets our needs or if I should sign up for Advanced or Pro.

Awesome.
Also, I've forgotten where suggestions are going. But I went to test out "reserving brew time" function. It would be nice if, when you choose a date on the "Schedule Brew Time" link it tells you right then and there if anyone else is brewing that day. Case in point, I did a test for September 29th and I said I was doing a 100 gallon batch and using every pot in the brew house; I didn't realize until I clicked "save" that you, Lucas, were already scheduled for that day.
Alternately, if people are supposed to look at the calendar before they click on "Schedule Brew time", then the calendar should be the FIRST thing they see after they click "Schedule Brew Time" (so they can see what days/times other people are scheduled) and then they click on a day in calendar view which takes them to the date/time, batch size, description page.
From what I can tell right now, yes. Next weekend we'll hopefully have all of the graphics in, the last bugs ironed out, and we can go into a feature freeze and do a methodical test of all of the features. So the testing I did on the sandbox account still worked, but that's different than the other account. my sandbox is configured with just PayPal WPP, so we should be all set. We'll test with real cards next week.

Lucas, is everything cool - people can still change subscriptions; all the automatic billing is still okay - although the PayPal manager account was canceled? Hope it didn't fuck shit up.
So, TONs of progress this weekend on functionality and layout. If you want, go check it out. http://www.chaosbrewclub.net/test/
How are the graphics coming alone? I've left placeholders for things and I'm sure there will be tweaking but it feels like we're getting close!

Adam,
I'm going to do my best to get all of the forum and discussion posts migrated over. There may be some that don't come across as there won't be groups anymore, just forums to simply things as right now you can have comments, discussion groups, and forum posts. I'm going to try and map stuff over into forums, then lock the posts so they're read only from now on. This is actually my task for this weekend (get the process, not actually DO the migration, that's for Oct 6/7) hopefully it'll just take the 1, so cross your fingers that everything makes it.

sounds good even if there's lost content.
Lucas,
What's going to happen to all of the forum posts? Will they be there in some sort of archived format, or will the old posts somehow be matched up to the new user accounts? Or are the old forum posts going to the big internet discussion board in the sky?
Along the same lines, what about our inbox messages?
As far as migrating user data over, other than the two topics that I just mentioned, I'm indifferent.

I agree as well.
I'm okay with that...
I've been thinking about this today, does anyone have a problem if we don't migrate all of the ning accounts? If we migrate, your still going to have to enter all of your information, so really there's nothing to be gained for all of us end users on the new site by migrating the accounts. Instead, you'll just sign-up for the new site, which will take about the same amount of effort as if we asked you to fill out your info after migration.
On the other hand, by not migrating we can leave all of the accounts that may not have been used in a while... "Spring cleaning" in the fall? Plus its less coding on my part... and I'm lazy :-)

Looks freakin' awesome, Steven. Can't wait to see the final product!
Ed,
Sorry about that, I started the migration process from the test server to production, so its now http://www.chaosbrewclub.net/test/. Let me know what comments you have, it may not look pretty yet, and the membership purchase form is broken right now (I got tired last night and went to bed half-way, sorry!), but all of the logic is there... mostly.

Whats the web address? The one above goes no where...
Looks awesome guys. Keep up the hard work, this is really great looking.
I like it!
Take a look on the site, I redid the calendar CSS to make it fit in a smaller space. You may only need to do some images instead of the full CSS and layout.
Can you send me the component graphics, font information, etc. and I'll try and get this input over the next couple days while you work on the calendar/forums?

Here's my first stab at the website design (click to see full size). The comp is very rough on content, but I think I have a good handle on the look and feel. This is what the home page might look like for a non-member with the content tweaked to get folks to join. Once you're logged in, the home page would change. Still need to work out how that actually works, but the basic layout of the page wouldn't change. I need to carry the design over to the rest of the site. The forum and calendar are going to be a bitch.
David has passed off a very good start to the about brewhouse, about chaos, about organisation. I will take it and run with it. expect something by Wednesday morn, Lucas.
Im working on about the brew-house
Lucas - I'll have something for the "about chaos" section for you later today.
I wanted to bump this back to the top of the lists. We're hoping to go live on the site within the next few weeks but there's a couple items holding things up that I wanted to share with everyone for transparency's sake. If you have 30 minutes one evening, ANYONE can help out with the "about" content for the new site. We could really use some folk's help in writing some of as we're approaching the deadline and the web team has been busy. If you have the time let me know and I'd love to get your help writing some of the following:
We can get you the necessary information if you have some time and it would greatly help us get things going as soon as possible. We also have the following technical items ongoing if you'd like to get involved:
Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any thoughts or questions. Thanks!
