Anyone interested in purchasing, building, and filling another keezer for the house? With the number of carboys in the fermenting cave, it only makes sense!
I would say something similar to what we have now except 8 taps - long keezer, collar, taps. With enough people throwing in, this might be something that is inexpensive.
Contact me if you're interested in any aspect of the build.
PS..I know there is also interest in getting a lagering freezer - a "frager"?
Sorry for polluting the thread, but if there is interest in a Black Danby DAR for $70, its available till Saturday, email or call (thestevenlane@gmail.com 312-504-7108)

This is his reply:
"The final price for two is 520 since they are in great condition and come with theyre moving cart ....if you took the sams one without the cart and lid then you can have that one for 225 and 260 for the other one"
Bill, you seem like a good haggler; you could find fault with Jesus himself. You should take the lead on our purchases....
I don't understand the logic. $200 for 7 cu.ft. is approx. $28.60/cu.ft. If this guy's $225 freezers are 9 cu.ft., that's $25/square foot; if they're 10 cu.ft., that's $22.50/cu.ft. Better deal per cubic foot than CostCo.
$200 for a new 7 cu.ft. vs. $225 for a used 10 cu.ft. Seems like a toss-up to me...
He said "he'd think about it" (i.e., $225/freezer) if we wanted more. I'm not going to press our luck.
He was asking $295 for one freezer. I countered with $225. He said he would consider if we bought more than one.
I'll throw in on at least one.
I finally got a reply.
Capacity:
9.7-10.4 cu. ft.
Width:
40-7/8"
Height:
36-1/4"
Depth:
24-7/8"

Got a picture?
hey, kind of off topic, but I'm trying to help a friend unload the following (it was going to be a gift for her BF, but its not what he's looking for):
So I got all excited to find a Danby DAR482 for a good deal and then realize after purchasing that it is ideal for home brewing only, 2 commercial 1/6 kegs will not fit :(
I'm going to try and see if Mike's Furniture and Appliances will take it back but thought I would let you know in case you know anyone that also wants to do a conversion. It fit's two corneys and a 5# tank perfectly and is apparently a very easy conversion because there is no coolant lines on the top and no freezer. So... let me know if you think you might know any takers.
I paid $70 for it and would obviously like to get that back, but if Mike's wont take it back then I kinda just want to get something back :/

It's still available, let me know if you want it (send email and phone number)

Jim, did you hear back from the craigslist ad?
I found a couple of links that have the same picture, and it looks like those are (probably) either 10.4 ft^3, or 5.7 ft^3.

or

Impossible to tell from the picture, but, like Bill said, if those are > 10 ft^3, they're a pretty good deal. Assuming that they do, in fact, work.
A 5.0cf freezer will only allow two carboys at best...I would think you want at least 12cf....put a collar on it and it can double as a keezer for an event...
Yes Jim all you need is a temp control and you have a lager chest....I have one and I set mine 2F below what I want to ferment at and it works like a charm...I even use it to do ales...you can set it at 65F in the summer and your good to go...If you want to ferment at 58F - 60F for a kolsch then that works too and you don't have to worry about using the large ferment room...
Just for shits and giggles I e-mailed the ad. $260/freezer isn't too bad (esp. if they're brand new and 5+ cu.ft.).
I realize that keezer is a different story (taps, beer and gas line, &c.) but for lagering/fermenting all we'd need to do is add a temp control, right?

I would be interested in helping to put together a new keezer. I could pitch in some funds as well as sweat equity. I would be interested in a lagering freezer as well, but how would we handle the different temps needed for fermenting and lagering? Two lagering freezers? Or would we simply lager lagers in one of the keezers while fermenting in the "frager"?
I would love to get a lagering freezer. I'd pitch in a small amount for this. I think it'd be a good investment for spring and summer events.
I think I could comfortably throw $40 or so at this project in addition to some time/know-how.
