I just saw a tweet from a Goose Island employee. It reads the following. Anyone up to head there on Saturday before the Keg Workshop and pick one up?
Come by @GooseIsland Fulton on Dec. 3rd from 10am-2pm and you can buy used Bourbon County Stout barrels for $30 a piece.
Sounds good! Thanks Iggi.
i may swing by a little earlier to scope it out, get a spot in line if i have to.

kyle and I will be getting there around 9:30 or so.
so what time we wanna get there?
...igz...
i can fit at least one on my trailer. these are proper trailers!
ive hauled over 300 lbs on one of mine
...igz...
FYI, I did confirm with my friend John (brewer and one of the barrel guys at GI) that they are 53 gallon barrels. I'm not sure what kind of bike trailers you guys have, but that is a damn big barrel.
I could show up early with my bike trailer...
I'm up for going earlier as long as Dave or Bill or someone with a car is down as well.
I'm guessing you'll have to show up a lot earlier than 10 to get one. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a line.
keep in mind these won't be ideal for sours since they're going to be charred. Not a good brett environment. The wine barrel that thomas got will be though.
Starting at 10am on Saturday. I feel like we should go earlier rather than later as I am not sure how many they are offering.
i can also haul a few on my bike trailer.
bill, not till saturday

The fulton plant is at 1800 W Fulton. Very close to the club house.
Very close to the brewhaus. They are located at their main brewery on Fulton between Ashland and Damen. I think if a few of us drive over there before the keg workshop we can get a few barrels back to the brewhaus. Whose buying one and who can drive?
I would love to get one of these barrels but won't be able to get up there to grab one. If someone is able and willing I would love to give you $30 plus gas money to grab me one. My wife is super excited about getting one of these barrels.
i still say we get some, but to make sure its announced, the club just acquired a 60 gallon barrel from Thomas Thorpe. 3 cheers for Thomas Thorpe. he does have plans for it already tho.

BTW, Thomas dropped off a 60 gallon barrel from Rock Bottom last night...
Go Sours!
I agree. Maybe use one for sours though!
you and kyle should both get one! Barleywine here we come.
either way, I'm game to go pick a barrel before the kegging class.
they use the bourbon county barrels for a lot of other stuff after bc is done, they used it for king henry and dominique. Don't know if they use all the barrels or what.
Ya this seems like too good of an oppurtunity to pass up. Whether we use them for sours or stouts, $30 is a great score. Dave if you willing to drive up there before the workshop I will be willing to pay 30 and donate one to the brewhaus. Let me know.
i say we get em

I think we should grab a few of these. We can rinse these with a carbonate solution and then store them or fill.
How many times have they been used? Once with buorbon, once with BCBS? Probably get one or two more good uses out of them before the oak flavor starts to wain. Maybe use them for sours after?
Actually Ken just tweeted me back and said they might be closer to 50 gallons. I can't help but think this is an amazing deal. I know we already have a few barrels, and were planning on filling our 30 gallon one, but why not step it up and fill a 50 gallon?
The normal full-size. 31 gallons.
What size are these barrels?
