Either way the shipping cost

Either way the shipping cost of a pallet is $65 + $13 fuel charge.  I'm not sure if the $13 is per order or if it's per pallet.  So it does make sense to get as close as possible.  I'll keep everyone updated, probably nightly, to where we stand with filling the second pallet.  Right now I think its's 12 and I did message others on HBT that didn't make it on the first pallet so that should increase in the coming days.

sorry if this is a dumb

sorry if this is a dumb question.  do we have to fill to capacity per pallet (or close)?  or can we sum what we have and split it 50/50 and call it done?

Looks like we are at 12 sacks

Looks like we are at 12 sacks so far for the second pallet.  I will keep the spreadsheets separate even if you ordered on the first and the second.  It will be easier on me, atleast.

Ok then I guess we will

Ok then I guess we will reopen this for a second pallet.  Click Here for the current spreadsheet of the first pallet.  There is 43 sacks on there.  I did leave off the split sack that Jim originally mentioned just because I couldn't find it anywhere about it.  Please double and triple check everything on there.  CHAOS group grain buy is officially reopened!!!  Let me know what you guys want.

Throw some suggestions out there; I won't be picky on splits.

I am more than willing to give it more time. We filled this pallet very fast. I know others do still want to order. We can vote here if you want. I say leave it open for another week or so. Anyone else?

Jim, I'm going to drop out of the chocolate race.  Do you want me to put you down for a half sack?

Does anyone want to split an 8 lb PBW cleaner with me?  It's 29 bucks.  Pretty good deal.

I'm still in for Chocolate.

I'm still in for Chocolate.  I don't mind going 1/3 with you and the HBT person or finding a 4th to do 1/4.

either whenever the pallet

either whenever the pallet fills up (not close yet) or we decide it'd be wise because of forecast conditions to cut things off.  I'll post a message saying there's only a few days left when there's only a few days left.  I will try to give you a more exact estimate when I know more exactly.

Thanks for all the

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I see I'm already down for a sack of 2-row.  Put me down for an additional sack of uk base and I'll split a sack of black if Daniel and I can find a 3rd person to split the sack.

Daniel Barker said:

I think they're pretty much the same, with Pale malt having a slightly darker color, but only slightly.  Consider also trying a UK pale /2-row/marris otter.  It's got a maltier flavor that I prefer in my beers.  I noticed a big difference when I switched and am not going back for awhile I imagine.  2-row will be more neutral which is good if you are looking for other flavors to come through more.

I'd suggest getting a sack of 2-row to start and maybe a sack of uk base malt to compare.

I'd be willing to go into a split for some black or roast malt with you jim if we can find at least one other person.

I'm in for 2 sacks of

I'm in for 2 sacks of Canadian 2 row.

Jim, I can't tell the difference between 2 row and pale.  They both end up as the same product.  And if you are looking to do several beers I would get another sack.  55 lbs only gets you 5-6 batches worth of base malt.  That's why i'm doing 2 sacks this time.

List of sacks ordered so far,

List of sacks ordered so far, itemized by sack, to ensure I don't double what was a split.  Niilo will clean up in spreadsheet.  This will give some of you an idea of what cost of sacks are prior to shipping costs.  We already have 7 sacks ordered on HBT and the thread has only been up for a few hours.  That's 16 so far.

1. Best Malz Pils, BZ-PILS, .61 cents a lb. for 55 lbs- split two ways between Kyle and Daniel Barker- 33.55 total, 16.78 a person.

2.  Canadian 2-row, CM-2ROW, .49 cents/lb for 55 lbs- split two ways between Kyle and Lager Dan, 26.95 total, 13.48 a piece.

3.  Best Malz Pils, BZ-PILS, .61 cents a lb. for 55 lbs- Lager Dan, 33.55 total.

4.  Canadian Wheat, CM-WHET, .53 cents a lb, for 55 lbs- Iggi, 29.15 total.

5.  Marris Otter, .69 vs. .75 cents a lb, Bairds or Thomas Fawcett for Dave Williams.  Waiting to hear back whether Dave wants Baird's or Thomas Fawcett.

6.  Canadian 2-Row, CM-2ROW, .49 cents a lb for 55 lbs- Jim Chochola 26.95 total.

7. and 8. Baird's Pale, BD-PALE, .60 cents a lb. for 55 lbs- Chuck, 33 each or 66 total.

Hi, I'm Jim, and I'm a group

Hi, I'm Jim, and I'm a group/bulk buy virgin.

My quandary is that I was rather in the mindset of trying my hand at a bunch of different styles and so committing to a shit-ton of a few grain seems daunting. I figured 2-row would be a good purchase, however, since it's versatile.  But, I've been intrigued by porters lately so I may be goin' porter for the winter so maybe someone wants to go in on some Chocolate or Black with me?

I also never got to the bottom of the 2-row vs. Pale.  Are they virtually interchangeable or not?  If they're not, put me down for a sack of Pale not 2-row.

There's still time, I only

There's still time, I only posted it on hbt tonight, which means we'll be waiting for them to get their orders in.  In the mean time Chaos people can still add to it.  Jim, let me know if you have any specific questions about what types of grain you might need.  It's all gonna hinge on what you plan on brewing the next few months.

Post any questions you have up here and I'm sure you'll get answers!
