Detailed parts list for making a mash tun (using bargain fittings website):
The first thing you will need is a Weldless Cooler Bulkhead Fitting. Once you click on the page, you can configure options from the drop down lists on the page. Choose the following:
| Inside fitting: No coupling |
| Cooler type: Standard* |
| Valve: Stainless two piece valve |

Hose Barb - (for valve outlet): 1/2 Valve SS Hose barb** |
* Choose the cooler type option based on size of the wall of the cooler you are using.
** Select the type and size of hose barb. You can go with brass or Stainless; and hose size 1/2 or 3/8.
The second item to order is Stainless Steel Braid Hose. For this item you will want to make sure it is the female connection. This will attached directly to the nipple on the bulkhead.
The only other thing you will need is a cooler. We will post some pictures from the class, once they become available.

Flip around the two ss washer shims and the o-ring touching the valve and your good to go. Any yes, discard place mats.
Also i still vorlauf the first 2 quarts or so....I find that if you get too many husks and junk into the brew kettle it can result in an astringent tannic like flavor.
Thanks! After some pushing and pulling I "fixed" the braid (just a bit vexed that I paid $15 for it and it came all janky) and have attached the nozzles. I don't know exactly when I'll get to test the tun (my first real free day is Saturday November 5th if you can believe it). In the meantime, revamping the brew setup...
So, I just received my package for Bargain Fittings. Everything looks good except the braid.
I know that my first problem is the place mats in the background (inherited those when I moved
in with the girlfriend). What I'm more concerned about, however, is that I imagine that holes this
big are unacceptable but I would appreciate others' opinion.
My only other question is the order in which rubber washers and metal washers go on.
Can't quite see in the photos above. Does it go rubber washer, metal washer, [cooler wall],
metal washer, rubber washer (as I have it below) or does it go metal, rubber, [cooler wall],
rubber, metal (or some other order)?

I do all grain on the stove top...........what I do is mash right in the boil kettle. I heat the water up to strike temp and insert some voile curtains to act as a filter. Then I dough in and wrap the pot with a sleeping bag to insulate and maintain temps. When mash is over I pull the bag (curtains) out of the pot with the spent grain and boil like usual. I I have done it about 4 times now .....and have made some kick ass beer. Im still tweaking my process to get a better efficiency .....the best I have had is 75%...and he worst is about 55%. Still learning
