I found a guy that is getting together a Chicago bulk buy. He is looking for a mid August delivery so he told me to try to have orders in by the end of this weekend. No markup at all and it's only grains. No extract, hops or anything else. So if you want in its the same prices in the pdf I put up earlier. Please let me know if you are in. If anyone wants to throw down on some brewhouse sacks I am game for that too. Let's get brewing!!!
I have a vacuum sealer. I usually break the sack into mainly 10lb and a few 1lb bags. I then throw that into a rubermaid tote with a lid. This should allow you to break open what you need for your brew day and allow the sealed grains to last a long time.
I say lets go with that. Farmhouse did say a 10% markup. And I don't know if he has a minimum. I am in for 2 sacks of 2 row. Is he ordering through midcountry? How much for the hops? I could use some centennial.
If u are in need of grain sooner, I can get a 55lb bag of 2-row from one of my brewer friends. He said we can have it at cost. He also has centennial and cascade hops broken down into 1/2 pound vacuum sealed bags if anyone wants some hops, again at cost from the wholesaler.
He also mentioned that we can tack on any bulk orders with him (with no mark up), he is in the south loop, which is an easy pick up and transport to 914. Just offering it as an alternative to farmhouse if there is a mark up and we have to go up there to get it. Next order is in 2 weeks if we are interested.
I looked at all the different types and malting companies...I think I could go for the Canadian 2-row and Superior Pils. works out to about 27 dollars a sack. Sign me up for at least 2 sacks of each.
If we're still thinking of doing the blue grass anytime we should all do a fuck-ton of ipas. If not, we should discuss that. Something refreshing would be nice. I'd be interested in getting a sack of 2-row or pale. Also interested in splitting a 55 lb sack of wheat and a 55 sack of pilsen malt with someone.
Looks like most things are going to be between 30-33 dollars per 55 lb sack. Dingemann's doesn't appear to be on the list anywhere (as far as I can see) which is a slight disappointment. Niilo, do you remember what he said about our shipping options? It looks like 65 bucks for a pallet delivery. Looks like a fuel surcharge of 13 bucks? = 78 bucks. I'm a bit confused about the lift-gate thing. If we need that it could be quite a bit more. Might be worth picking this shit up in person if the shipping starts to stack up.
If it's 30 for a sack of 2-row plus that much for shipping, it won't be worth it since you can get 2-row from Brew-n-grow for something like 35 bucks.
