I've been trying to build interest in this event but there is currently no info on the site about it that I can direct people to. I know it's for members only, but I'm sure we could get some new members to sign up with this type of event. Even if just for a trial period. Any reason why this hasn't been posted to the calendar? Only a week and a half away! -Eric

CHAOS Harvest Festival - Oct 20th
Wondering about that too. I might have a keg of IPA available.
We're working as fast as we can, what with the transition to new membership tiers, new website &c.
We'll get it up there.
I pillaged a hoppy hour in December and recreated it as ides of cider.
I need a better image. I just pulled that one our of my butt
Want to use one of mine from last year?

all, im working on a flier now. we have been waiting on confirmation for a live band so that could presented on the flier. unfortunately one band broke up, another hasnt been consistent with responding, the last is still up in the air. i know the event is soon, so im just going ahead and creating the flier for immediate distribution.
besides beer, there is really nothing much to plan. we will not be having a stage as in events past, food will be whatever everyone wants to bring/grill at the party. we bring out the keezer to the patio as usual. we can use the two large spools and place a table top across them for a bar. this one is easy breezy.
there was a thread on the other site for what everyone was bringing, and where they are volunteering. there were also a few additional calls to help on there that no one answered. can that thread be located with those details shown in the description?
stay tuned.

I have a keg of IPA available.
Im not sure I can pull more from this very easily. Here is the link to the other thread which is closed.https://www.chaosbrewclub.net/forum/chaos-harvest-festival-102012
CHAOS Harvest Festival 10/20/12
last year CHAOS held the Ides of Cider on Oct 15th. it was our first fundraising party coupled with ciders and autumn seasonal brews, along with some apple themed foods. we also had a fantastic bluegrass band that played on a stage at the front of the yard. we had a fantastic turnout, the ciders and beers were amazing, and everyone had a great time.
a year later, we want to keep this annual tradition going on celebrating the harvest season as we get ready to hunker down for the winter until the warm winds come again.
we are looking for a number of volunteers to come forward with some ciders and seasonal brews, about 15 batches in all, some folks who wish to contribute some simple foods, and maybe someone has a lead on a band that would like to play?
we are operating on a very minimal budget this year, as we are filing our 501c3 documents and other expenses, but that doesnt mean we cannot still make merry!
this event will be free for all members, and at that this will need to be a member only event, however, one month trial memberships will be available for our guests.
please join me in an effort to make another great event to bring together the members of CHAOS and our friends for some revelry, fun and games, dancing, and sampling the best homebrews in Chicago.
please let me know if you arre interested and in what capacity, and if brewing, let me know what you will be making. i will keep an ongoing list here in the description.

I have 5 gallons of Belgian Blonde Strong Ale & a freshly minted 2 tap jockey box.
--james
Awesome James! Thanks for supporting the event! That gives us 12 taps right now. 6 keezer, 2 club jockey box, two James F jockey box, 2 James L jockey box.
Something to think about is where is all the CO2 gonna come from? Gotta make sure we have enough splitters, bottles and hoses. I think I have a bottle and a spare splitter to run 2 kegs (one of which my Belgian Blonde).
--james
I got a 4 way of my tank and another 4 way loose. (I had 8 taps at my wedding and but the gas equiptment to support it...) We could split that off your tank or another. The keezer is all set up. So we should be fine on gas connections
I think we have a house regulator too...that could be split. But it sounds like we should be okay. The Keezer is self contained and has everything it needs...just needs to be fed kegs.
So I just got back from B&G Kedzie St. If someone can send me .pdf or .eps artwork for the Harvest Fest posters I can run off 20 color copies at 11x17 for distribution. Or more?

Has anyone considered contacting Virtue Cider and seeing if they want
to serve something at the party? I know a few people in the club are
pretty friendly with them.
im still in with my pumpkin ale....might be able to volunteer to help set up
oooh yeah has anyone cleared this event with the girls ??
If you know who the friendly people are you should ask them to contact the cider place. Doesn't hurt
The girls have been notified!

my ciders are currently in the ferm room and will be ready to serve.
if we need another co2 tank, i have one available, just needs to be filled.
ive been having some compatibility issues on my computer with the eps files, and moving it from my personal laptop, to my work laptop, etc. JF has the files i sent, we will do what we can with that.
music continues to be a challenge but we do have 2 possibilities thanks to JL.
the event has been cleared and we should expect their attendance.

I'd like to try and serve my keg cask style. Just tip it on it's side and gravity feed. It's naturally carbed. Hopefully its about cellar temperature outside.

it should be fairly cool out. just need to keep it out of the sun

JamesF,
We have to be a bit careful about precisely how we advertise the event. We can't say that it's an "Open House" when it's a membership-only event. It seems that the ILCC might be starting to get a bug up its ass about homebrew, so we don't want to advertise this as anything other than a "private" event.
-Adam
I have a tank with a splitter if we need it.
Also, as far as Adam's question about set-up around the yard, are we opening the gate to use as the entrance or do we simply want people to enter through the brew house? If it's rainy, we might want to consider making the "main entrance" through the brewhouse so we can use all available tents for members to stand under.
I see that you guys hit CostCo today. I was going to ask if you guys could go toward the end of the week so as not to overshop and us have extra (potentially wasted) food on hand and taking up room in our fridge. How did you guys estimate food?
If you still need help to setup I can come down. Plans changed.
The emperor is not as forgiving as i am
Just to confirm. Will people be able to sign up and pay at the door for a one month membership?
Yes, there will be at least one computer with internet access as well as our mobile credit card reader.
But, people are encouraged to get online and register before hand. People CANNOT enter without being a member and there could potentially be a long line at the door.
Yes, but we would much prefer that people do it before. Jim is testing the system before the party, but the only way to make sure that one gets in in a timely fashion is to sign up beforehand.
I was planning on signing up Friday morning, is that enough time to get into the system?
The emperor is not as forgiving as i am
Yes, it is. Thanks for doing it ahead of time!
This is rather unclear so thanks for asking, Tommy!
First, Alchemists get +1 to parties/events; not just any Brewer Level member.
Second, no matter what, the +1 guest MUST be at least a web-only member to get through the door.
So, case in point: you, Tommy, are grandfathered in as an Alchemist and thus you get +1 to a party/event. Your guest, however, MUST be at least a web-only member in order to get in.
Moral of the story: make sure your +1 is registered with our website.
This also just jogged my memory that it hasn't been made clear how one goes from "24/7 Brewer Level" to "24/7 Alchemist Brewer Level."
In order to obtain and maintain Alchemist status one must:
i.e., in order to get Alchemist status one must do all of the above; in order to keep Alchemists status one must keep doing all of the above.
Privileges of Alchemist status are:
Do we have a solid number of kegs brewed for the event? I just checked and my tank is low and I don't think I will have a chance to refill it before Sunday. I could drop it off at the brewhouse if someone else was headed to fill a tank. Also I can certainly bring my 4 way to split off someone else's tank.
I was planning on bringing my own CO2 tank and regulator for the two kegs I'm bringing. The regulator has a two-way splitter on it.
Are there enough jockey boxes for the all the kegs?
For previous events, we have printed up menus and signs. I would like to skip designing and printing and make chalkboard signs. I believe we have one chalkboard. We'll probably need at least two more, one for food and one for the second bar (I assume we'll have two bars.)
Iggi, anyone, do we still have chalkboard paint?
I can also bring a tank and splitter for 2 kegs. Just let me know if needed. Maybe I'll bring it just in case.
I know we have 12 taps, 6 keezer and 6 jockey boxes (2 club, 2 mine, 2, James F) I don't think we have a solid count on kegs for the event.
I'm bringing Jockey Box, 2 Way Splitter, CO2, and 1 Keg of Belgian Blonde/Imperial Kolsch. I have room for 1 more Keg on my box. I also have 3 Cobra Taps if someone wants to supply the Gas + Kegs.
--james
Steven, good idea on just doing chalkboard. We do not have any more chalkboard paint. Ask Iggi how on-budget the event is; maybe he can spare a little for chalkboard paint as well as some boards we can store for the next event.
Speaking of Jockey Boxes - How are we getting Ice?
--james
Last time someone with a vehicle just picked up ice on the way to the event.... Should we do it differently this time around?
Also, I don't know if I said this but if we need it, I can bring my 10# CO2 tank which has a splitter.
I can drive the Ice Down - pickup at Jewel. How much?
--james
<shrug> That's someone else's call. Who's been keeping close tabs on how much beer we have and how many jockey boxes will definitely be used?
With a jockey box, does the keg need to be kept on ice as well?
Ideally, no; it should be constructed in such a way that it cools as the beer flows through the ice-immersed coils. But we did for Cinco....
everyone that has brewed, please send over your info. i will make some sheets with brew info. i do recall seeing some chalkboard paint in the brew house, i can always get some more as well. the one chalkboard we had was thrown out by someone, but i rescued it from the trash, it in my apt. we can and will make more. no need to spend money on print.
as far as budget, im not clear as to what amount was approved, but we have spent $178 on food and cups, and committed at least $100 to a band, which is now confirmed.
