Nice! It appears that our illustrious President and schmoozer-extraordinaire has scored us a discount at Maria's. I was out in Oak Park last night and, although it's in the suburbs, there was one restaurant/bar which was really into us (the manager sat down and had a beer with me; the girl tending bar, who is another beer buyer for the place, was really nice, too). I think they're going to lay one on us. They're also opening a sister place in Forest Park.
I'm going to follow up with my places (among which are Evolution, Longman & Eagle, Rocking Horse, Boiler Room; and others). Let me or Evan know if you want us to approach a particular place.
Our m.o. has been to do walk-ins. But, with the heavy hitters in Chicago (Revolution, Half Acre, Goose Island, Finch's) we were thinking about calling in advance and scheduling an appointment with the owner or manager to sit down and discuss options.
Two comments re: cards. (1) Evan and I are more than happy to do the legwork on the discounts but it makes more sense for people with a connection to or rapport with a certain establishment to help us out and ask for a discount on behalf of the club. There's no reason for me or Evan to reinvent the wheel. (2) Should we give thought to partnering with certain merchants exclusively? I approached one wine/beer shop (with quite an extensive collection) and the owner asked if they'd be the only wine/beer shop we're partnering with. Or, should we continue to spread the wealth? It didn't sound like that was a deal-breaker, the manager was already putting together a "package" for us, it just sounded like we'd get an even bigger discount if we offered exclusivity.
Funny ....i was thinking about this very thing yesterday....yeah i think we should limit the discounts to home brew stuff and establishments that emphasis having a great craft beer list. There are places that have a goose island 312 on tap...and then there are those who strive to have the newest and most exciting stuff. We should focus on the latter. my .02
@LagerDan, that's what Evan and I are focusing on and in fact I've walked in and walked out of places without asking for discounts because of their unimpressive array of taps. But this shop who asked about exclusivity has a very exciting array of beer.
@LagerDan, the shop who asked about exclusivity also said that he can get rare stuff and give us a couple days to get our hands on it before he starts selling it to the general public.
I see that someone took out the address for Brew & Grow (Kedzie) but didn't take out the phone number for Kedzie. Is the Kedzie store not offering a discount any more, just Morgan St.?
I need to touch base with people who have offered to help with this project a=
nd get some more deals for us.

I used my card at Brew and Grow last Saturday and the guy actually gave me a 20% discount! I also used it for Northern Brewer and got the discount, just not right away.
If anyone wants to help me and Evan score some new discounts and follow up with some establishments who have not yet committed, go to the Membership Committee Forum to download the letter we are giving to establishments as well as to see/edit a Google Doc of deals approached but not yeat sealed.
Thanks for your help on this! We could have at least another half-dozen by year's end with people's help!
Since people seem willing to help out. Here's some places I haven't had time to hit:
(1) Capone's Liquors on north Elston - The owners Freddy and especially Eesa (sp?) were all excited about us, even had a CHAOS sticker on their cash register. I chatted with them, gave them the letter and haven't heard from them.
(2) Owen & Engine - haven't even made first contact.
(3) Quencher's - haven't even made first contact.

How about Revolution?
The emperor is not as forgiving as i am
Great idea! It's definitely on our radar.

I am friends with Josh Deth at Revolution. Let me know when you want to talk to him and I can give y'all his e-mail address.

If this is an online merchant that has a large selection I would be willing to partner up exclusively if the discount made it worthwhile.
No, it was a local, one-store wine/beer shop. They do have an impressive selection (and it's only growing), though.

So I've been exchanging Emails with my goto Hop and Grain Source: John @ Farm House Brewing Supply, Janesville, WI
He is also interested in being a corporate sponsor w/ a 5% discount on everything except Keg Faucets. His website is at: http://www.farmhousebrewingsupply.com/Scripts/default.asp
Please let me know how I can follow up with him or who I can put him in touch with at CHAOS.

@JamesFaircloth, he can e-mail chaosbrewclub@gmail.com and I'll take it from there.

Great job, guys!
