Election Nominations

Hello CHAOS

Elections are upon us and there has not been any discussion of it on the forum. At the very least the we should get everyone who is running to post an explanation of why they are interested in the position.

We have 3 board positions open, and the President, VP, Treasurer  and Secretary are up for election each year.

Currently Chuck Mac, Jeff Whelpley, Conrad Fuhrman, and Kyle Arnold have accepted nominations for board positions. I would highly recommend all of them to the position.

I would also like to nominate Stephen Freshnock (Fresh), Ken Getty, Eric Padilla, and Gustavo Mendoza. If any of you would like to be considered for the positions please post that you accept and an explanation of why you are interested in the position.

Thanks,

James

Hi everyone, if you haven't

Hi everyone, if you haven't met me by now, I'm Conrad. I've been brewing since the fun age of 16. I would love to be on the board in a capacity to observe and float where help is needed. I've been to almost all current board meetings & sessions thus I have a good handle on where things are going and how to help get them done. If anything my strong point is in focus of core goals and getting things executed properly.

I've helped slightly with some tech items ( Know I need to do more Lucas :) ), & post about 2 - 4 items a week on CHAOS's Facebook & Twitter pages. I have linked CHAOS with band opportunities that have little to no cost for us, and equipment for the brewhouse when needed. I also taught a labeling class prior to Christmas and am looking forward to doing so again in the spring/summer time. I'm also currently going through the BJCP classes James is teaching.

I've been involved heavily (in my opinion) with CHAOS since I've joined and done what I can to be more a part of it when my time allows. Hope that helps with the election process.

Conrad

Hi,

Hi,

I'm Jeff Whelpley and have been brewing for about ten years, mostly extract in my kitchen.  Afer several boil overs (and dodging the various kitchen untensils launched by my wife when said boil overs took place) I upped my game to brewing all grain at various friends homes when I could.  I found CHAOS last summer and have since been regularly brewing two or three batches a month.  I'm also enrolled in James' BJCP class and hope to not only use the knowledge I've been acquiring to brew better beer, but also to help new club memebers and brewers do the same.

Since joining, I've volunteered to perform a number of functions including organizing and maintaining our brew house storage spaces, assistng Chuck with renovating the ferm room, and giving Jim C a hand with acquiring new partners for the club card.

For my day job, I manage two multi-million dollar contracts, several renovation projects, and serve as property manager at two large Federal buidlings in the Loop.  I would love to use these organizational skills for good and apply them to increasing the coolness of our beer club.  I'm very excited about the direction our club is heading and am looking forward to being a part of it's gaining popularity.

Thanks for the suggestion

Thanks for the suggestion lucas but I have some large non-work projects that I'm going to be dedicating a lot of time to for at least the next 12 months, more likely 18.  I'm going to be active in the club only as a beer maker, social beer drinker, and stout night organizer.

Honored and humbled gentlemen

Honored and humbled gentlemen... Unfortunately I will have to decline the nomination as my schedule probably would not allow me to be an effective board member at the moment. I will still be around to help out the club in whatever capacity I can though. Cheers and good luck to all the nominees!

Thank you for the nomination

Thank you for the nomination Adam. I will accept the nomination for President, and step down from my current position as VP.

If elected president, my interests would be in expanding our image and relationships with other clubs and with the homebrewing/craft beer community as a whole. I would also continue to encourage more education in the club through workshops and classes. As we have hit a point where we have enough members to support ourselves I want us to focus on building relationships internally and improving the resources we have at our disposal.

To that aim, I believe we need a vice president that can encourage camaraderie within the club. Someone that puts others at ease and who is around the brewhouse on a more regular basis than myself. A more ancillary role would be that they would make sure the hoppy hours and open houses are staffed. If you think you fit this role please step up. We need you.

I hope to be your next president and look forward to seeing where this unique club goes.

I would like to nominate

I would like to nominate chuck.  He's been around since the very first meeting of CHAOS, has shown continual long-term dedication, won us one of the few contest awards to our name (the highest placing I'll add), has always been and continues to be a great teacher with new members.  I witnessed him helping a new member do all grain tonight.  Chuck has a personality that fits CHAOS's non-snobbish, laid-back mentality, a mentality that has earned us interest in some up and coming downtown affairs.  Chuck has been brewing for longer than anyone I know in the brewhouse.  Except for Bill Mason and Dave Wiliams, Chuck has probably done more work on the brewhouse than anyone else in the club and continues to have smart and economic fixes for problems.  He has been devicive for nearly every one of our seasonal events, donating beer, manning cooking stations, helping to organize and set up tent city at stout night both years.  Chuck has everything needed to be a fearless leader.

I'm happy to stay on as secretary - posting the minutes and dealing with paperwork. I'm going to focus on making sure our non-profit status stays recognized by IL and is recognized by the IRS. I'll work to defeat any new regulation that impacts our events. I will also work to make sure our minutes get posted to the website for all who miss a meeting. For what it's worth, the only meeting I've missed as a member was for my wedding. ;)

I will keep my personal

I will keep my personal nominations out of this thread so as to not to influence people, but do think that everyone who has been nominated for positions are worthy candidates. I'm going to use James being President below as an example, but by no means am I trying to discourage others from running. Having too many people willing to step is a great problem to have & will help the club in the long run.

As far as the makeup of the exec board go, it's good to have a range of responsibilities. James was able to focus on our education initiatives while acting as VP due to his vast experience in that category and my focus was more on the day to day aspects of CHAOS. If James is elected President, we can't expect him to focus on both the day to day as well as education, so it would be good if the VP was able to fall into an opposite role.

If any of the Exec positions is something you think you would be good at & would like to help the club, feel free to message or email me (evan@chaosbrewclub.net) if you have any questions or would like to be nominated. I won't nominate you without your consent since it's a commitment. Alternatively, you can always run for dual positions (BOD & exec) or you can also run for a 2nd position (such as VP if you run for Prez & don't get elected). Aside from this thread, you can also message MarkWalters to be put on the ballot.

I'd also like to add that if someone has interest in splitting off a role, such as quartermaster, or brewhouse improvements, please speak up. While I don't see any new roles being made in the next two weeks the responcibility split of P/VP is likely to change a bit this year, espically if James keeps education.

I will accept Danial's nomination of me for V.P.

I am also running for the Board of Directors.

Vote Chuck 2013!

Really I am not that great at tooting my own horn... What I would bring to the Board is a strong background in Construction and I feel this would help us prioritize what improvments to the brewhouse are feasable and can be done in a timely and cost effecient manner.

I'd like to nominate Pete Alvarado. I think he's a good rep for the club
and would be a good addition in any executive role.

I'm up for taking on the role

I'm up for taking on the role of President. I have put most of my energy for the last year and a half into planning and promoting the seasonal membership appreciation parties, which I see as a key component in unifying and growing the club.

I'm on vacation right now in Cali. When I get back this weekend, I'll expand on my hopes and plans for the club in the next year.

After much thought and

After much thought and consideration I accept the nomination for Board Member.

I am a relatively new member of CHAOS (Nov. 2012), but have done my best to help in any way to strengthen and improve the club.  Currently, I am enrolled in the CHAOS/Square Kegs BJCP Training and look forward to judging CHAOS sponsered contests in the future.

My greatest asset that I can lend to the club are my random connections (Tents from this years Stout Night being the most recent example) and my proximity to the brew house in random emergencies (Like when the back alley door fell off).

I have been really impressed with CHAOS and the projects/events accomplished thus far and truley honored to be nominated as Board Member and assist the club in accomplishing greater feats.

i strongly vote for Steven

i strongly vote for Steven Lane in a president capacity. He was a founding member, he has the creative initiatives in beer style and recipe exploration, has maybe the most racked brewhouse hours, is always a front man in all our events, has been integral in developing our identity and brand, and has been fantastic at maintaining positive relations with all members of the club. he believes in developing positive relationships in and out of the club with members and partners, and supports bringing our members together to grow within the club, and finding ways to build new membership. A recipe of Steven's, with support from the club, placed as an award winning brew at Hoptacular.

As running mate, i vote for Chuck Mac. as stated before, he has also been around from day one and has always supported the clubs growth.  he brings decades (sorry chuck) of experience both as home brewer and club affiliation.  he was key in not only construction experience to build brew house 1.0 and 2.0, but also had the desire to help build.  if something failed, chuck was first to offer his assistance in repairs. He and Bill are the reason we have heat, and pipes to our burners, was the first to jump on fixing the gangway door that collaped into the alley, in taking ownership of food at events, always around on cleaning days. also previously mentioned but notable - he brought the first group brew together for an award winning brew at the prior Hoptacular (before we even had brewhouse 1.0 completed).

these characteristics are exemplary of what we would like to see in the club for leadership - dedication to the brew house, membership support and development, brew competition, creativity, longevity, positive attitudes, and just all around badassery.

Steven / Chuck 2013!!

Per David's recommendation, I

Per David's recommendation, I will accept the nomination to the VP position. I have met most if not all members and feel that I am very approachable and am willing to help a fellow member. I have currently taken over the role of Hosting Wing nite.  If elected I would like to expand that role to include more of a social aspect to the club.

Kyle, not being able to

Kyle, not being able to attend wouldn't exclude you from running. It does exclude you from saying anything for a nomination speech in person, so make your case here (like you already have) to anyone who doesn't know you or may be undecided.

Gotta love those bots as well. At least this one is in English instead of 8 pages of Polish that only Igz can read, although Polish makes as much sense to me as that paragraph does.
