Room to Lager?

Hello all,

I'm a brand new member and looking to brew up a Vienna Lager on Sunday morning (5/5/13) but I wanted to first make sure that there is room in the Lager fridge for a 6gal glass carboy to ferment out. Does anyone happen to know if that is the case? If not, i'll obviously need to switch up my plans quickly (prior to starting my starter tomorrow).

TIA,

Ryan

Hey, hey, Ryan! Welcome

Hey, hey, Ryan! Welcome aboard!

Unfortunately, Sunday is doubly-bad. It's the day after our big event and we don't allow anything to happen at the brewhouse until it's all cleaned up and back the way it was; it's also our monthly meeting during which we don't allow anything going on.

Sorry about that! I'm brewing next Saturday afternoon if you'd like to reserve a brew bay at the same time, I'd be happy to supervise.

Thanks for the quick response

Thanks for the quick response! Looking forward to my first brew onsite!

Fair enough regarding the timing, but I also wanted to verify that the Lager fridge supports two things, 1) a 6-6.5gal glass carboy (is there clearance?) and 2) Is there currently room to fit another brew in there at all regardless of #1?

Thanks!

Ryan

Hi Russ,

Hi Russ,

You ask two very good questions. I am pretty sure there is room in the lager fridge (there was 2-3 spots last week) but I will check tomorrow or if you come to the party you can check tomorrow.

As for height, you can fit a 6.5g fermentor, however, you will need the orange blowoff cap or something else that adds essentialy no head height. (I use a typical stopper with a sort run of hard plastic that holds a small blowoff tube. I sawed the bubbler off a typical airlock and put a 3/8 blowoff tube on it when I was desperate the other day.)

Given that we're not starting

Given that we're not starting cleanup until 3, I think its fair to say if people get in early they can brew, especially if they're doing some cleanup as they have time (boil, mash, etc.).  Just my $0.02, I was personally thinking about doing it as well and just hanging around all day depending on my schedule.

Oh... my... god.  Why haven't we done this?    http://thechive.com/2013/09/17/guys-rig-up-buddies-plumbing-with-beer-wh...
