Can people make wine at our club

Hi all.  My friend has made wine once before and wanted to know if he could make it at our club, if he joined?  I know he would be held accountable to our cleaning requirements and all, but would making/fermenting wine at the club be an issue?

Thanks for your help with this!

John,

John,

I know that myself and others have fermented mead in our ferm room without any issues to the beer.  In general, things fermenting should only have stuff going out, not in.  My only concern would be the differences between equipment needs as we wouldn't have any of the things he might need.  I also don't know if anything he might use could taint something used for beer.  That shouldn't be a huge issue though as the majority of our stuff is stainless steel and its really hard to funk those up.  He might want to use some different hose, but beyond that I think he should be ok.  Personally, my opinion is that anyone who likes making their own fermented beverages is very welcome and I can't imagine it messing with anything that we do.

Oh... my... god.  Why haven't we done this?    http://thechive.com/2013/09/17/guys-rig-up-buddies-plumbing-with-beer-wh...

I have done wine in the past

I have done wine in the past using my brewing equipment with no problems so I don't see why not.

I'm totally cool with it. I

I'm totally cool with it. I was concerned about equipment and crossover but it doesn't really look like there is much. Plus from what you said this weekend, he has most/all of the equipment already.

There shouldn't be any

There shouldn't be any concerns for cross contamination as long as he is clean and sanitary. Wine yeast is Sacchromyces as well, so no worries about brett, lacto, pedio infecting our equipment there,

Thanks to everyone that

Thanks to everyone that responded!  I'll pass on the good news to him.  I know he's coming to stout night, so he'll be a trial member then and get a chance to check it out.

Thanks,

John
