$278 for the repair to the front furnace. $150 estimate to vent the rear furnace - he couldn't do the back one at the same time because the repair guys don't work sheet metal, only the install guys do that. It seems like the one can heat the whole space for now.

How do we turn the heat on and operate the thermostat? Also where is the thermostat?
Kyle the thermostat is on the wall by the water heater. Just turn it up and the heater will kick on. Just remember to turn it down when you leave...
Ya I saw something that looked like it might have at one point been a thermostat but it was all busted up and no front plate on it so I didn't touch it. That is our "thermostat"?
It used to be. James and Lucas installed a new one awhile back...
I looked all over that area and didn't see anything but that busted one and the rheem water heater thermostat. Where is this new one exactly and what does it look like?
Yeah, that one on the wall without the cover is hooked up to the heater. There should be a cover around somewhere. Anyone with a better one can feel free to replace.....
I dropped by today because Chip texted me the space was cold and was concerned about frozen pipes.
When I got there I noticed someone had turned off the furnace. Please NEVER turn off the furnace. You can turn it up or down, but not off.
Jeff could not get it to turn on this afternoon. Not sure what the problem was.
The problem was someone turned it off. There is a switch on the right side of the thermostat, and someone turned it to the off position.....
I want to apologize. I was there on Wednesday and turned the heater off when I left. Unfortunately I was there tonight and also shut it off when I left and hadn't seen this thread about keeping it on until just now. I assumed since we never left our heat on when we left the old space that the same would apply to our current home. The lowest that thermostat goes is 60 degrees and I don't think that heater will ever heat that space up to that meaning the heater would be running 24/7 that seems like a waste, super expensive and excessive. The pipes never burst or froze at our old place when we didn't leave the heat on. Anyways I am sorry for not knowing this new plan, but I did shut it off before I left tonight. I will be sure to leave it on from now on and just turn it down. Hopefully our pipes are ok until tomorrow morning when someone arrives for the open house.
Yeah, we clearly need to make a new procedures handbook. Until then the rule of thumb is leave it the way you found it, and if you are leaving something other than how you found it, tell the person who will be staying after you.
