Rant (as if I'm some crotchety ol' coot but I'm not): I'm tired of seeing the "beer float" as if it's some new, craft, artisanal thing. My grandfather was drinking those back in his day!
So (organizers permitting), I was thinking about serving a beer float (homebrew, homeicream) for our summer party in July. It's definitely not Stout weather but anyone have any thoughts on a good style (or flavour profile) combinations for this? Mango ice cream with a mosaic ale? Cactus/Pear ice cream with a spicy/chile lager?
Thoughts? Suggestions? Ideas?
You should do a Mango icecream, chili peeper beer float for Cinco De Mayo party!
I made an organic Mango and Serrano pepper cider last year, and it was real tasty, the sweet fruit really compliments the pepper/heat.
Chili stouts are good with vanilla
Milk Stouts are good with salted caramel gelatto
stout floats work in summer
Lambics are good for floats
I remember a brewery in Grand Rapids that does one with a chocolate milk stout and vanilla ice cream. I'll dig up some info, but I also thing a Not Your Fathers Rootbeer clone would be fun.
Thanks for the suggestions! I'll come up with something for one event or the other.
Not Your Fathers Rootbeer clone with vanilla ice cream...yummy.
Southern Tier Creme Bruele with chocolate ice cream is very tasty
