So I started pricing out what it would cost to make a 6 tap custume jockey box and came to the conclusion that it would be way to expensive. SS coils start at $80.00 bucks a pop, ouch! Thankfully we have the interwebs where folks have already done the thinking for ya and they post pics of their work.
So, I present to you the Shank Bank;
This looks to be a pretty straight forward project and with piano hinges in the corners this bad boy would fold up for easy storage when not in use.
I wonder if we could team up with Heineman Bar Company. Especially since this would create some buzz about Break Room Brewery with beer nerds from around the country.
Idk Ken, to me it would seem bad form to advertise a pro brewery at Club Night...
Chuck I assume this wouldn't rely on stainless coils but would just have beer line running to keg in ice buckets? Should be fine for serving anyway.
A Heineman Bar in our front room is a major selling point for our club and when people ask we can point out that he is opening Break Room Brewery was my point...didn't picture it as full on advertising.
Ken I have no problem mentioning that the front bar was a donation from Heineman/Break Room but I really see no need to have them help with this project. The point is to showcase our clubs talents, aside from the bar and getting the heater fixed the entire brewhouse as been built by the club...
Kyle, yes the kegs would be in buckets with lines running up to the taps...
Chuck...I hear you and definitely see where you are coming from. I was looking at it from a donated materials and labor in terms of the finishing. I do like that this will help with all the future parties and potentially Cervesa De Mayo depending on the build day.
Ok I see your point as well now Ken. I have no problem solicting donations for material, hardware, ect...
We have access to PS1's wood shop via Lucas.
I would be opposed to any kind of branding on the shank bank besides our own, but not opposed to mentioning that materials were donated by Heineman/Break Room via word of mouth or a flyer.
Chuck...Absolutely, agreed on all points and I forgot about Lucas's PS1 membership for a project such as this.
Great idea! If we could get a hold of some large diameter copper pipe, that could make a nice, classy-assed shank bank as well, perhaps one that could be packed with ice as well.
Here's a few pictures. Maybe do some pipes mounted on a nice chunk of wood...
I have no opinion either way, just trying to help get ideas flowing. I'll gladly help build if I can as well.
I have a 4 tap wooden chamber. Holds 4 kegs in bottom and cooler of ice in top. I have 2 coils but the 1 time I used it I just used regular lines. It stands 55 inches high and it is about 34 wide and 34 deep. It could easily be odified
Modified for 2 more taps. I will post some pictures Sunday. I have no use for it now so I could bring it in for modification (I do use the taps and shanks in my kegerator).
I have attached a document that shows some of the stuff I have to donate for club night if anyone wants. I have a mostly built bar/jockey box (would like to modifiy to be long skinny, shorter, hold more kegs). I also have a bunch of 4X4 and 6X6 beams that could layout the booth. I also have at work and soon to be in my garage a bunch of rusty metal panels that could be bolted to the booth/front of bar etc......I have wood that could make a pretty cool chalk board as well. If anyone is interested let me know. I cannot help with any building until may. I will also be driving my truck up on Wed before the conference if we need to transport large stuff. I have a 4X8 trailer that could be pulled as well. Let me know-312-848-7657. We can use all or a little or none, just wanted to offer it.
Well I fail to be able to upload any photos or documents here-might be my work computer. I can send a pdf if anyone is interested and has an email.\
On another thread Dave is pitching for using our old barrels and turning it into a 10 tap system...
As chick mentioned, a few of us at the last meeting were talking about making a self serve station. Something that would not take up a lot of space, but be able to serve lots of beer. Below is a snipey from a spending proposal that details the station.
Serving station: Self Serve (which was done by some clubs at last years conference.) The idea is to take a barrel, set it on its head, and put taps into the side wall going around the barrel. The taps would go almost all the way around, making better use of space in our 10x10 booth area. A simple box style stand would be constructed and a small rear section would be left untouched so that a trunk of beer lines could be could be routed back to corny kegs - which would be held in buckets of ice.
Thoughts? If people like this idea I'll go to board to ask for funds. I think chucks bar should be done as well. It would be nice to have a manned station for more interesting/ limited beers.
Love that idea Dave.
