Spent Grain Dog Biscuit Recipe (included)

Hi Guys,

If you're like me, you may have been considering ways to reuse your grain (aside from donating it in the green bins for the compost/feed guy). Well, if you haven't already figured out a way to reuse your grain (of which I'm sure there are many), here is a recipe from a Brooklyn Brew Shop book I have for Spent Grain Dog Biscuits. They are super easy to make and my dog loves them. (One note: I've made these a few times and by now I feel like the recipe might use a bit too much peanut butter. I may reduce it a bit if you're going to take a crack at it.)

Anyways, thought I'd share. Enjoy!

Eric

I believe it does. I'll try

I believe it does. I'll try to send those pictures along when I head home later, or possibly this weekend.

A couple of recipes it has off the top of my head are for, like, Beer Ice Cream Floats, and other sauces and stuff (beer pickles), but I'm not sure about bread. Some of the recipes call for Spent Grain Flour, which my wife has made before--with varied success--where she basically dries the grain out on a cookie sheet in the over for a while and then grinds it to a pulp in the food processor.

I'll send along what I've got.

Spent grain (can still be wet

Spent grain (can still be wet) is also great blended up in a smoothie/shake (a la Oatmeal)

I wanted to do this, but it

I wanted to do this, but it looks like if I want to use up the grain from a 5-gallon batch, I have to buy 4 or 5 gallons of just peanut butter, not to mention everything else.  Sorry dogs, looks like you're getting Milk Bones, if you're good that is....

Rich, I've made a similar

Rich, I've made a similar recipe (no pumpkin) and 2 cups of spent grain will make 1.5 cookie sheets worth of flat treats (I break it up after it sets). Even just doubling the recipe & using 2 cups of PB should give you quite a lot without using up all your breakfast PB from the cupboard ;)
