Hey Everyone!
I'm a long time beer lover, that brewed previously (about 5 years ago), and just started again recently (1 partial batch last month). I have never brewed all grain, but I am looking to start. I already had a general understanding of the whole process, but recently began reading Palmer's How to Brew from cover to cover again. Obviously, it's a lot to take in, and I've always believed it is best to learn by doing. So I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in brewing a batch or two with me, to kind of show me the ropes. If a few people want to get together to brew some batches, even better. I am absolutely willing to pay for the ingredients, and keep the finished product at the club for others to enjoy.
Sorry for the length...
Welcome!!! There's a program we have called Tuesday Brewsday that might be what your looking for. It's a communal brewing experience for teaching/learning and the beer produced is taken to conferences, events, and also kept on tap in the brewhouse keezer. That program is headed up by Matt Omura. We also have the brewing 101 classes that you could take part in if that interests you. I believe those are listed in our events section. I know David Williams and Jim Chochola have done those in the past. Both of those would be excellent to meet folks and get your feet wet. If you feel like diving right in, I think I have a brew scheduled for the 21st and there are open bays, schedule yourself one and is be glad to be your supervising brewer and assist you. I'm also brewing Sunday, while there are no bays open you're welcome to stop by and get a feel for the place if you've never been to the brewhouse before.
Hi Chris!
I know I asked Matt about this once before, but forgot the answer: when are the Tuesday Brewsdays? I think maybe second Tuesdays—he's got a brewing bay reserved, but it's not on the event calendar.
Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the club Chris!
John Palmer's book is a great resource that many of us still use and a book that I recommend to anyone that is getting serious about home brewing.
Determine what style of beer you would like to brew and when you are available to brew and post it on the forum like you did here and you will find many people willing to reach out and show you the ropes. I have never seen a new brewer go unnoticed when they post on the forum.
I look forward to meeting you and sampling your beer soon!
Thanks for the comments! I'm glad to see how welcoming the group is!
joefalck, I have seen the classes on the events page before, but I was unable to make the last one. Saturdays (including the 21st) during the day are pretty tight for me, since I started doing tours at a local brewery, but I might be able to stop by Sunday. I believe my fiancee and I might brew Sunday though, so I will have to see.
I think I just might message Matt Omura about the Tuesday Brewsday, since that definitely sounds like a great way to get my feet wet, and also meet other members. jofalck and brockboland, I'll post back if Matt gives me specifics about the date.
kengetty, Yeah I've had the book for about 6 years, but I think I'm finally trying to understand a lot of what I just brushed over previously. Thanks for the encouragement and I'll definitely do a posting once I pay my dues and decide on something to brew.
Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza.

Got it, looking forward to seeing you next week.
I will put the TuesBrews on the event calendar for the next few months too.
Thanks Matt! I'll see you on Tuesday, and Chris, hope to meet you soon.
I messaged Matt back already, but I'm definitely in for the Tuesday Brewsday. I can't wait to meet everyone, and start brewing at the club!
