Short Intro

Hello Chaos,

My name is Thom and I'm one of your new (temp) member.  I thought it best  to publish a quick introduction. I'm fairly new to brewing having only started less then 6 months ago.  I started brewing with a friend who also started brewing at the same time.  We've only made extract brews to date but would like to jump over to all-grain sooner than later.  I've been filling my time lately by reading a few brewing books (Complete Joy Of Homebrewing, How To Brew, Water Book: A Comprehensive Guide for Brewers and Yeast - The Practical Guide to Beer Fermentation) and listening to numerous pod casts from The Brewing Network and BeerSmith.

I’m a bit of a techie (just built a BrewPi), love woodworking and also an advanced technical diver (Adv Trimix and CCR).

I must say, this is a very addicting hobby and I'm looking forward to seeing where I can take this.

Please feel free to say hello and I look forward to learning more…

Hey Thom!

Hey Thom!

Welcome to CHAOS and looking forward to meeting you soon.  Also if there is something you see around the brew house that can be improved with your wood working skills please let us know.  We are always looking to improve and love to put people's expertise to work.

Welcome Thom!

Welcome Thom!

Glad you can join us.  Make the jump to all grain ASAP, just dive in head first!   Brewing history/Historic techniques/german lagers/education committee are my areas of interest and what I brew.  I head up our "brew school" program for our parties, Thus far we've done a Hop school a Malt school and Yeast school is coming around nicely.  In a nutshell about 7 or so brewers will brew identical batches with a single variable, the hops or the malt, etc. etc.  for the purpose of showing brewers what each ingredient can bring to their pallet and to help the non-brewing beer appreciater hone in on flavors or qualities they like and be better equiped to find beers they like in the overwhelming craft brew aisles.  Hope to see you around.

Once I get my butt over to

Once I get my butt over to the brew house we can see what woodworking "projects" are in store.  It's always nice knocking out the low hanging fruit.  One thing to keep in mind is that I have an 11 month (as of today) old little girl so finding free time outside work has been challenging but there's no crying in baseball.

Thom,

Thom,

If you can make it out on October 4th from 11am to 3pm we are having a family barbeque & bottle share, where the brew house is being shut down and made more kid friendly.  There will be several children in attendance in the 1 year old range, so I'm sure there will be some crying.
