Icehouse and I had attempted to make a stout that was sweet, thick, creamy, and low alcohol. We added milk sugar to make it taste like a milk shake.
Since our finishing gravity of 1.04 is not that thick, our abv far from being low, and the beer tastes nothing like a milkshake, we did what every other Chaos member would do.
Add ridiculous adjuncts until we get it right.
To this end, we've left a carton of vanilla ice cream with snickers chunks at the brewhouse to make a ice cream stout float. We tried it yesterday and the results were pretty favorable.
Hey Jeff,
This was Icehouse and mine's attempt at making a stout designed to be served in an ice cream shake.
Recipe is:
12 Vienna
1 Cara 65
2 Midnight Wheat
1 Torrified Wheat
1 Chocolate Malt
1 Roasted Barley
2 pounds dry lactose sugar
Mash @165
2 packets SO5
When we did this, our gravity readings went from 1.10-1.04.
-James
We mashed at 156.
Thanks- thought that was a bit high. Thanks for sharing the recipe- I thought your batch turned out great.
Oops, yes, 156 is right. Please don't mash at 165.

Thanks guys, that sounds really good. I may give it a try tonight while bottling.
