The school component will be

The school component will be "wood shop" and consists of experimenting with aging on different woods. It's forming up nicely, with yeast school I should have sought help and delegated things when I got over my head with moving and everything so we could have had some signage and better write ups which were my responsibility. I dropped the ball on that as the move and other life occurrences sapped my energy and time. I'm gonna try to get that stuff all lined up before the birth of my son in late December, if I can't make it all happen before then, I'll be sure to holler for some help and get an assistant on this to make it happen so we can have a great woodshop setup.

Just a heads up, I probably

Just a heads up, I probably can't coordinate this one. Nancy, if you want to take the lead that would be awesome. I might have an event on the 24th and might not be able to attend. Won't know until later in the month.

If for some reason I can be there, I'll be happy to put what I can behind it.

Ken, you should copy over

Ken, you should copy over some of the values from our Harvest Spreadsheet for dropdown on Keg/Bottle and Total calculations. I can add a quick equation to then determine how many regulators we need.

I would like to volunteer as a chili cook for this event if you are taking volunteers.  If you need a sample night to prove out the quality I think that could be arranged.  I am definitely a better cook than brewer at this point.

I'd like to help out with

I'd like to help out with this event...can't let Daniel down.  All kiding aside, I'd like to see a return to adding some live music to our events again.  I have a few contacts if this is something that others think would be a good addition to Stout and Chili.

Im open to helping out in whatever other ways are needed (in addition to the normal setup and event volunteer shifts).

A couple of things...for any

A couple of things...for any event we do there should be a minimum of 3 Gallons & Max of 5 Gallons donated for the parties.

Going to allow the beer list to keep growing until 2 weeks before the event, but there will be a tasting panel to determine if your beer gets served.  If you try to enter your beer the week of the event you will be encouraged to put it on the keezer for the club to enjoy after the event instead.

We do our best to give everyone an equal opportunity to participate....so adding 10 beers to the list does not mean you will have 10 beers on the final menu.

Thank you everyone who has already signed-up...looks like its going to be another epic event!

Hey Ken,

Hey Ken,

I see that the my amounts were adjusted on the spreadsheet. Would you prefer that I only brew one 5 gallon batch for stout night? (Assuming that it passes the tasting panel) Or should I still plan to brew multiple 5 gallon batch receipes?

What is the process for submitting to the CHAOS tasting panel? Is there also tasting panel for general house keezer donation?

Fitz...

Fitz...

You can brew multiple batches for Stout Night.  The menu is in a constant state of flux as we get closer to the event, but we have never had this many beers two and a half months before an event, so wanted to let people know that we were going to have to taste panel them.

Most likely we will have a tasting panel the Monday or Tuesday before the event at the brew house...its majority vote of those in attendance.  The only time we have done it was for the National Homebrewers Conference and it worked out well.

Keezer is basically a tasting panel in itself and things are only quality controlled before events like Open Houses/Tours/etc.

If we need to limit beers,

If we need to limit beers, why not just have a random drawing or something? Telling people their beer is not good enough to be served at a member appreciation party is pretty uncool and unnecessary in my opinion.

Rich...think your taking the

Rich...think your taking the tasting panel to the extreme.  Most of the beers that were removed from the NHC list were pretty flawed, one of my beers included.

I would actually limit someone who has multiple beers before I would limit someone that has onlt brewed one.  The main idea to showcase as many of our brewers as possible.

I'm proud to share my beer as am sure others are too. I think that if someone was not able to showcase a single brew because other members with loads of free time submitted 20 gallons is wrong. Greater Variety vs quantity.

Ken - I disagree with the

Ken - I disagree with the tasting panel for the beers.  This is a membership appreciation party so members can showcase their beers.  Good or Bad it's still their beer that they worked hard to brew and want to share that with other club members.  As far as limiting the beers, why not just allow a brewer to only enter one or two beers.

Pete...if you read my last

Pete...if you read my last comment I think we are on the same page.  The tasting panel is in the event that the sign-up sheet were to keep growing, which it looks like its leveling off.

We need to also be aware of the fact that we are taking peoples money in exchange for certain level of quality in the beer we serve.  We have had to pull beers from the list for quality reasons in the past, so the tasting panel concept is not a new one to our parties.  Just trying to be more transparent as our menus and membership keeps expanding.

I just think it's bad form to

I just think it's bad form to ever have to pick betweens beers for member's parties, I understand that it is needed for competitions or events for the public but when it just us, these beers are for us by us, we charge people for membership to the club not for just the party, I will admit that is probably the reason they show up for but it is also just a perk to the membership.

Ken - I think the perception,

Ken - I think the perception, intended or not, is that you and a few others would be deciding which beers get served.  I think if a member wants to share their beer with members and friends, that should be encouraged at all costs, because, as Pete said, it is supposed to be what these parties are about.  Most non-regular members who come to this are our friends or people who just want to share in the enthusiasm of the people who made the beer they are drinking.  At least that is my experience.   If you are talking about checking for infection, un-carbed beers, that sort of thing, it seems reasonable.  However, I think I have been to every party we've had and I do not recall one coming to a screeching halt because of a perceived off flavor in someone's beer.  Limit if necessary, but don't judge.

Rich...again think you are taking the idea of a tasting panel to the extreme.  We are on the same page, as I mentioned before I would limit the number of beers for a single person before I would limit someone with a single beer...barring infection, etc.

Hey Guys,

Hey Guys,

Two questions, do we already have enough/too much beer for Stout night, and how strict is the stout part of stout night? I ask, because my wife and I brewed a Black Saison and were wondering if it was something we could add to the party. It was our first brew at the brewhouse (so kinda ceremonial) and is currently carbing at home. It's obviously no where near a stout, but it is dark in spirit (and color). I know someone had mentioned that palate cleansers are a nice addition to the night as well, and I was thinking this might fit in there too. Though for a palate cleanser it will not be nearly as transparent as Rob's...

Thanks!

Chris

Maybe we could make a laptop

Maybe we could make a laptop or iPad available at the check in table, just in case there are day of(at the door) sign ups. I imagine that would make things a lot easier. As goes with word of mouth invites, and honestly online invites as well, I could see there being a decent amount of people not in the loop.
