Chiller

Hey peeps -

I had an idea and it may seem silly, but I thought it might be a useful resource.  Has anyone thought of making brief videos on the proper use of the chiller?

As a newbie, the chiller is wonderful and a little intimidating all at the same time. A little instructional how-to video might be a nice resource to keep pinned in the forums for just such a tool. Not just for me, but for other novices as well.

Perhaps this already exists?

Cheers,

Bill

I was thinking it might be

I was thinking it might be good to have a checklist posted above the chiller as well, for priming it, using it, and cleaning it.  That way you have a visual list in your face for what to do.

I will be brewing on Saturday

I will be brewing on Saturday morning.  I could use the opportunity to, as I use the chiller, write down some bullet points on its use and share here on the forums for comment.  Once its in final form, if folks sign off on it, I would get it lamenated and posted above the chiller in some way.

Sound good?

I could draft something as

I could draft something as well, Jim. I'll PM you tomorrow, you can go through your routine on Saturday and see if it needs any improvements. I could eventually QR code the checklist with the video (if it turns out ok) so folks could have another resort, if needed.

I'd love to work with you on

I'd love to work with you on this, Kyle.  Posting a bullet list, to walk folks through the counterflow chiller step-by-step, will be helpful, I think.  The video will be a great learning tool, too.  If you get to drafting the bullet points before Saturday, I'll take a stab at editing them - if you don't get to it by then, I can do the first draft and you can edit it.  I hope this will be helpful and, perhaps, encourage folks to be thorough in their cleaning regime for the chiller.

a) I love the video idea

a) I love the video idea

b) There was an initiative to write this kind of documentation for most of the equipment in the brewhouse, but I'm not sure how much progress has been made. Since Mark Van De Haar volunteered to write up instructions like these for the chiller, I'd recommend checking in with him to see if the written version is already done and just needs to be laminated and hung.

So as Brock mentioned, I'm

So as Brock mentioned, I'm working on writing and getting lasered/cut signage for all of our equipment, including the chiller.  These are very short (think 2-3  inches high, 5-6 inches wide) that includes just information for the people that already know what to do and is basically the "rules" for using and cleaning the equipment.

I do think the idea of a video is AWESOME, we've also talked about creating "wiki" pages for all of the equipment and I actually put some pages in place for the big things.  Have we considered making a video and updating the chiller page for folks?  We're going to include a link to those pages on the acryllic equipment signage so it could be good to do that.

Thoughts?

Oh... my... god.  Why haven't we done this?    http://thechive.com/2013/09/17/guys-rig-up-buddies-plumbing-with-beer-wh...

So, for clarities' sake, you

So, for clarities' sake, you don't want Kyle and I to put together, this weekend, a bulleted list or check list for users of the counter flow chiller, that would be laminated and somehow attached above/near/on the chiller?  Is that correct?

Not at all!

Not at all!

I'm a big fan of JFDI (Just F-ing Do it!), and I'm glad you're getting stuff done.  I think it's a good idea and if you're going to do it this weekend, then just do it!  All I was saying was, we've also got a project started to put together acryllic signage and so I'd love to include a condensed version of what you put together.

The one thing I would ask, is can you include what you're doing here: http://www.chaosbrewclub.net/wiki/counterflow-chiller.  I've made it so you should be able to edit it, but computers are hard...

Got it.  Kyle and I will get

Got it.  Kyle and I will get a draft of it together this weekend and share it, incorporate any changes and then get it up.  When its in its final iteration, I'll post it to the wiki.

Even better: post the first

Even better: post the first draft to the wiki! That's the idea of a wiki: constant improvement. Put whatever you've got there and share a link around for comments and improvements to be made on the wiki page.
