Hi Ken. Sorry to hear about the fermcap. Do we at least have star san yet? I left 2 packs of Pacifica hops in the freezer next to the kegerator. Can you just hide the shit out of them in the back of the freezer so no one takes them before next week. And how have you been? Thanks!!!

I bought a little bottle of Star San as well. We should use the little bottles with built in measuring cups as dispensers and keep the big jug out of sight.
I always make my starsan solutions in small amounts and fill a spray bottle. It's an instant no rinse sanitizer, there's no real need to mix up 10 gallons of the stuff to soak your bottles and equipment in. Just a couple sprays and the entire surface is coated and the job is done.
You want 1 part per 640, 1 oz starsan per 5 gallons water. This makes for .55 ml per 12 oz spray bottle, I usually use .75 just beacuse it's easier to measure. 12 oz of starsan solutions lasts me about 2-3 brew days...
If you're going to make a giant tub full of starsan and use 10 oz of the stuff then maybe it's a good idea to bring in your own container?
The club decided to put funds towards keeping PBW and Star San in the brewhouse at all times; it is worth sharing this cost. We just need to stop wasting it.
Signs would help. If someone writes up directions, I can design some 11x17 posters.
Switching to immersion chillers should help a lot, a bunch of cleaner and sanitizer gets pumped through the counterflow.
Another reason to make a tub of starsan and a warm tub of PBW is if you are using the chiller. Clean it by running PBW through it, sanitize it by running StarSan through it, then after you're done, clean it again by running PBW through it. Plus, its only a scoop or two of PBW and 2 ounces of StarSan to make up a ten gallon tub of each. Its a pretty economical way to go.

Sorry. That should've been a pm. Nobody use my Pacifica!!!!!!
I went and purchased a small bottle of star san today for use at the BH. Doing great John, sorry we missed the Madison trip.
I brought in a small bottle of Star San on Saturday for folks to use, also.

The Star San is on order, along with another pail of PBW. We are going through this stuff way too fast....
While it's usually in the fridge, ferm cap is not something the club is obligated to provide, so please do not count on it being supplied.

It's hard to measure pump squirts...
That, and, maybe, signage on the buckets or something sound like easy and effective solutions. We need something similar for the PBW.
My 2 cents as the new outsider

I thought the pump measured out a set amount of StarSan. I remember someone saying that it was 7 squirts for a blue tub/5 gallons.
The emperor is not as forgiving as i am
you only need 1 oz of starsan for a 5 gallon dilution.
Mark, the tub thing seems crazy, but we use Star San in tubs as a place to keep stuff (strainers, auto siphons, tubing, etc) while we brew.
However, one thing that is a waste is using it in the carboy cleaners. I never understood that....

Makes sense, especially for more than one person brewing that day.
