UPDATE! - CHAOS will be providing 1 vial of White Labs yeast to each participating member!
UPDATE #2: Registration is closed. Please add you and your buddie's yeast choices to this form. (Add 1 yeast per person.)
Yeast order closes 4/21. If you don't place, you don't get your free vial.
We're going to go ahead and close this sign-up at the end of the month with a cap of 30 total participants (We're at 16 as of now). I will pair off people shortly after that. You'll be tasked with coordiniating brewing a 10Gal batch with your partner on a style that you choose. Brew sometime in April and we'll have the party in late May, date TBD.
Sign up and get randomly paired with another CHAOS member. The 2 then agree on a style that they're not familiar with and brew it within the next few weeks. A month or so after the brew "deadline" we can get together (probably before a general meeting) for the pairs to share some of their beer, talk about it and share what they learned about the style or general brewing processes. We'll grill out and enjoy the warm weather.
This would provide brewers with the opportunity to:
- Meet new brewers.
- Learn new tips, tricks and brewing processes.
- Make a new style that they've not made before.
- Showcase their beer for the club to enjoy.
EDIT 2: Please sign up to participate here!
Possible date for this get-together/party is May 28th.
PM me with questions.
I love this idea, but I'll be too busy to brew in the next month or so. I'll come to the after-party though!
That's a sweet idea, I would be down.
Great idea Matt, count me in. This would be a great compliment to Member Appreciation Party, just saying.
Love it! I'm in!!
Sounds like a great idea Matt.
We all tend to pick and choose the styles we feel comfortable with and getting members out of that comfort zones is a good way to learn more about brewing
Who will be doing the pairing off and style decisions? Do you imagine we draw names and styles out of a hat or do we defer to a conspiratorial council to make sure that, for example, Struck and I don't get drawn with belgian pale ale.
Depending on the mix of people we get, I will pair newbies with Alchemists/GMs via 2 separate pools of people and they can shoose themselves what to make. Speaking of Alchemists, I will expect pretty much 100% participation from you guys on this.
As of right now, this is $0 cost to the club. If we get enough participation I would like to have the club cover costs for some of each members' batch, whether that means a grain/yeast/hop buy, we'll see.
I've edited the original post with this form to fill out. Please fill it out if you want to participate.
Rich - I'm all for a true member's party. Sometime when we don't have anything going on. When would we have the get-together? I'm thinking end of May, say the 28th or 29th?
Matt, I think that may be catch, we always have something going on. My suggestion was to convert one of the quarterly parties into that, but Stephen felt we are under obligation to throw parties for Friend members every quarter. If we can't do that, then any date in between one of those parties works for me.
Sounds like fun - I signed up! And I've never seen a Google docs form like that, very fancy - you'll need to show me how to do that sometime.

I'm in!
In !!!
I know boolish is excited to see me brew any but a giant beer !
I'd love to be a part of this, but I'm so strapped for time these days... maybe in the Summer. Thanks for putting this together. - Nanc
Hey ya'll...Just signed up!!! I'm fairly new to chaos, but have a decent amount of brewing experience. This sounds like a great opportunity to meet some you and pick up some tips and tricks. I'm really looking forward to it!

You get a yeast! And you get a yeast! And you get a yeast! EVERYBODY GETS A YEAST!
I'll send a yeast form to fill out as a type of group buy. This'll be due probably April 3rd to get the yeast order in. LMK if you have any questions!
We're at 21 people, people! I'll be closing this on this weekend, matching people and sending out the yeast order form. Tell your friends!
This is closed. Please get with your buddy to pick your yeasts and add to this form ASAP.
I will follow with details on the date the yeast will arrive at Brew Camp.
I spoke to Jared today and it looks like we're going to miss his bi-monthly order that goes out tomorrow. His next order will be placed on 4/22 - delivered on the 27th. A little later than I wanted to get brewing (and right before the party) but we'll live. Please fill out the form asap!
Please get your yeast order in to this form now. They are due tomorrow. No exceptions!
So what's the deal with the yeast? Eric and I were brewing a lager, so we need to make starters, etc.
Sorry for the wait. White Labs wasnt taking orders for the past week or two. Brew Camp will order through LD Carlson and we'll have our yeast in tomorrow. I'll go pick it up tomorrow or Wednesday.
Awesome, Matt - thanks again.
I was wandering if we want to push the date for brew buddies back since we're just getting the yeast... and chances are good no one is brewing this weekend with Cerveza.... Maybe a "in house" june event to hold us over till summerfest?
We should definitely push the date back. June after nhc would be better, I'm thnking.
FYI - Some of us have already brewed.
Patty, James and I brewed our cream ale a couple weeks ago, but it will only get better with a little time to age. Pushing it back is fine with me. I still signed up for the yeast and will use it in another beer.

Chris and I already brewed ours, too. It's a pretty light beer, so I don't want to go too far past NHC, so maybe the weekend after?
Yeah, I don't think ours is going to hold up for months either. We may need to think about brewing another beer or something if we're going to push it. I think ours is going to be too awesome to let go bad.
Yeast is at the brewhouse in the white fridge in a brown paper bag!
