Valve for large brew pot

Brewed today and didn't see the 2 slightly smaller heavy-duty brew pots that I believe belonged to "Fresh." Did he take them back?

Since those are gone is it possible to get a valve for the one large brew pot that doesn't currently have a valve sooner than later? (It was taken off bc it didn't work).

Yes, he took them back. We

Yes, he took them back. We will be proposing brew kettle additions/possible upgrades at the board retreat next weekend.

With that said, the valve for the 4th pot will definitely be replaced/repaired if kettle upgrades do not get approved.

Someone give me a part number

Someone give me a part number for the valve we need and I'll buy it asap.  We need four brew kettles.

So to get back on this ... I

So to get back on this ... I could always strap the pot to the back of my bike and bring it over to Brew and Grow to get fitted for a valve later this week.

I know the board is thinking about new pots, but brewing with a full house is all but impossible without this pot & having Fresh taking his pots back.

I don't know about you guys, but I usually use 2 pots during the beginning of my brew (1 for the wort, the other a "hot liquour tank")

Mike gave me a part number

Mike gave me a part number and I've ordered it.  We'll get it put together this week, before this weekend.  Agree that we need four large brew pots.

I also use two pots, often, but the second pot doesn't have to be 20 gallons.  I usually use one of the smaller pots.

I did have a chance to pick

I did have a chance to pick up some spare parts that we'll need for all four kettles. However, I didn't have time to stick around and get it put back together. I plan on popping after work for a little bit tomorrow to see if I can get it working again.

The parts are on station 3 if someone has the time to do it before then.

I got a notice from Bargain

I got a notice from Bargain Fittings that the ball valve Mike needs was shipped today and is being sent priority, which means it should be here by Wednesday.

damn, saw this too late. I

damn, saw this too late. I talked to Ken a few months ago and we wanted to swap out out current valves for new simple three piece ones. I'll find a link when I get a minute.

If you'd like me to order

If you'd like me to order them, let me know, Matt.   My only thought is that we plan this so that we don't go down a brew pot at a time - in other words, plan the project so that it can be finished on the same day, so that we have four brew pots available at a time, if possible.

I don't know if we should replace all right now or whenever the other ones die.

Looks good, Matt.  How does

Looks good, Matt.  How does this sound - get the one that's in pieces now working (with the part I ordered for Mike) so we've got four working brew pots available now, and at the meeting on Saturday decide whether to replace the other three now or as they break down?

I tried to put together a

I tried to put together a workable valve while we wait for the new one to arrive, however, it has a very slow leak that I wasn't able to completely stop.  The leak is slow enough that if needed in the next couple of days, it could be used to heat strike/sparge water, but I definitely wouldn't boil in it.

That valve looks like it would be much easier for us to clean and maintain compared to the valves that we have now.  There is an incredible amount of carbonized wort gumming up the broken ball valve.  We did out best to scrape, boil, soak and chisel out what we could to get it to work, but at this point it's a lost cause, as it will quickly gum up again.  I'm sure that the other three look much the same at this point.

After watching the video attached to the brewer's hardware page it looks like it would be easy to take the entire valve/pickup tube assembly apart and thoroughly clean it after each use.

I'll swap like for like when the new one comes in.  If we refit each of the stations with these new valves, it couldn't hurt to have a spare hanging out around in the brew house should one of the valves go down again.

Additionally, it might be worthwhile to invest in heat shields for each of the four stations to reduce wear and tear on the equipment caused by the burners.

Just checked the tracking

Just checked the tracking info on the new valve, Mike, and it confirmed that delivery is expected tomorrow, Wednesday, and I can bring it over to the brewhouse that evening.
