Front Door Unlocked

Just a reminder for everyone to be sure the brew house is properly closed down before leaving. I found the gas for brew bay #2 left on when I arrived this past Saturday morning and Nancy found the front door unlocked when she arrived at the brew house this morning.

The door unlocked was me.

The door unlocked was me. Sorry about that, I forgot to check it when I left last night. I did a walk through and clean up, but didn't think to check that. My fault.

I can make a laminated, brief

I can make a laminated, brief checklist and put it by the garage door button in the back for large general items. Could be used as a good reminder before people leave.

Things like:

1) check all gas valves are turned off ?

2) front door locked ?

3) wort chiller pump off ?

4) wort chiller water valve off ?

5) lights off ?

6) kiss the rat(s) goodnight ?

Can you think of anything else?

I thought we had something

I thought we had something posted? If not, please feel free to do so. The rats are on their way out, so kiss 'em now while you have the chance.

We have (had?) one on the

We have (had?) one on the back door, but I don't think people pay any attention. Couple extra items:

  • Trash emptied?
  • Grain mill area vacuumed?

Ha! Yes, and when I came in

Ha! Yes, and when I came in Saturday morning, the garbage was full (no bag) and the grain mill not vacuumed.

An extra reminder can't hurt.

An extra reminder can't hurt. I'll try and put this up by garage door button next time I'm there.

Garbage not being taken out

Garbage not being taken out seems to be a recurring theme.  There is no way we'll get rid of the rodentia if people leave garbage overnight.

I think that looks great,

I think that looks great, Brandon.  Thank you for doing that.  Let me know what it costs you to laminate or whatever you end up doing with it and I'll reimburse you.

OK the "checklist" is up and

OK the "checklist" is up and visable. I put one on the carboy shelve on your walk out (it's eye level facing the brewhouse) and another one right by the garage door button.

Nice. We need more helpful

Nice. We need more helpful signage around in general.

In the effort of making sure we're all on the same page, what do we think about a "re-training" for every brewer-level member, including how to train new appretices?

Understanding that some

Understanding that some members aren't frequent house brewers that have the program down, or may not be super thoughtful, or are poorly trained, or whatever (you know what I mean), it's obvious that these occasional fuckups will happen. I'm a little surprised there hasn't been a major adverse event yet.

We can set up a daily log check list system vs. just posting the checklist. The last person in the house on any day must sign off with their user name to the critical checklist tasks. Pretty standard stuff in industry that takes 30 seconds. It decreases the chances that fuckups happen and increases the individual responsibility on members.

It's not foolproof. Often the people that forget to turn off gas lines are the same people that will forget to sign the log book/sheet. And the brewhouse schedule is not always indicative of who is last in the house. But it would give us a process to avoid and/or correct bad actions.
