Brew and Grow west loop closing

This is sad news for those of us that live downtown. I just picked up some stuff from brew and grow in the West Loop. Let me know if they're going to be closing very soon. Consolidating both stores that are in the city.

No home brew supply stores

No home brew supply stores between whatever the hell you call the neighborhood where the other B&G is and Beverly= CHAOS co-op!

Hey - if Brew and Grow wants

Hey - if Brew and Grow wants to close the only shop within 15 min of the brewhouse, then I'm going to try and serve the membership. The brew and grow has saved my ass many a time.

It occurred to me that it's

It occurred to me that it's actually the only homebrew supply store between their Kedzie location and Bev-Art.... That's a big chunk of real estate.

Base grain would be the

Base grain would be the easiest route for storing and vending at the club. I guess a few common specialty grains, hops, and yeast types could be added.

I'm all over the place stylewise, so I assume I'll need to go out and source adjuncts, hops, and yeast (which are much easier to carry.) It's the base grain that busts yer back.

I wa just there and heard it

I wa just there and heard it too :( No chance they'll be moving the kedzie one closer to the city. They own the kedzie building.

Vending machine idea would probably work better for specialty malts no? We most likely will all have lbs of base malt on hand but when i need 8oz of say Special B a trip to Kedzie vs a vending machine I'm hitting the vending machine

You guys, c'mon. Brew Camp is in Lincoln square and much closer than Avondale. Also, guess who hooked us up for brew buddies yeast discount? Who also has SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper sacks of grain.

Yes, Brew Camp is closer (and

Yes, Brew Camp is closer (and independent).  Still not close to me or others downtown.  I'm probably going to do more advance planning (or try to) and order stuff.

Base malts we can get through the CHAOS group buys.  We could also buy a bag of some of the most common specialty malts and divide it up into 1 pound sealed bags.  If enough folks would want to split some roast, chocolate, Caramel 20, 40, 60 or 80, I'd be a part of that.

Brew and Grow is considerably

Brew and Grow is considerably closer to CHAOS, if we're talking distance, or especially time. Why should we not support them both? Seems like they have both been beneficial partners to me.

Jim - I'd certainly go in on some of those.

Brew camp might also be

Brew camp might also be having some issues. The owner might be out of action for quite awhile and he's not sure how to keep the store open. Heads up.

Sounds like Chaos needs to

Sounds like Chaos needs to open its own brewing supply store.  Can membership dues buy partial stake in Chaos Inc?

Or i guess co-op to keep non-profit status?
