They take place on a Saturday. The hours are up to the host, but 10:00-5:00 seems to be what most people go with. Pretty much hang out at the brew house for the day. You would talk about the club and give tours to people who stop by.
Are you talking about the stein brew? I think it had a big turn out due to the party/stein brew, which wasn't really an open house.
I certianly don't want to limit ideas, so what would be your plan? (Remember we want this to be for possible new members to check out the brew house, not people with no intention of joining the club to just show up and drink all of our club beer for free.)
Jeff, my idea is to have a beer brewed that would be served at SCN. Attendees would be engaged by having them participate in the brewing process (and therefore actively experience the brewhouse) just as they were during the last stein event.
It might be worth mentioning that I've received commitment of attendance for Oktoberfest from at least one person who went to the steining, Granted, I believe that the club did allocate funds towards that event to cover wood, coals, and some food, and these expenses wouldn't even have been offset by the addition of a few new memberships, but I would cover these items myself.
I understand your concern about people attending this thing just to consume free club beer, but as part of this event, I would commit to having homebrew ready and/or making non-club beer available.
If you still envision problems with this plan, or just don't think that it is a good idea, I'd be fine just hosting a regular Saturday open house. It will be fun either way!
I'll take November if that works
Great, put it on the calendar!
What all goes down at an Open House event? What would a host be expected to do?

The last one was on a Friday and it had a pretty good turnout. Can I do the november one on a Friday evening too?

Sounds good! Go ahead and schedule it on the event calendar!
