Hi Guys
I just wanted to gauge interest on a group bike ride to 3 Floyds from downtown. We'd meet @ Monroe harbor and head south from there (we'd be taking the LakeShore path anyways, so it's pointless to meet at the brewhouse). Meetup spot below:
From there it would be about 28 miles south to 3 Floyds (2 hours, 26 minutes). This would be a leisurly bike ride, nothing serious. But don't kid yourself, 28 miles is no joke. I was thinking about leaving around 930-10am from the meetup spot on a Sautrday or Sunday so we'd get there around lunch time.
Here's the whole route:
If you haven't been to 3 Floyds before, it's a cool little spot and they have good food. Afterwards I was thinking we could ride to the nearest train station (East Chicago, SouthShore line) and take it back to downtown (Millenium Station). From 3 Floyds to East Chicago is another 37 minute bike ride (7 miles, route below).
And here are the weekend train times from East Chicago to Millenium:
PROS: Beer, something new, get a good workout in.
CONS: Long ass ride, 37 miles total. Possible bike trouble along the way.
Let me know what you guys think!
-Brandon
Anyone up to leave 3 hours earlier and run it?!?!
Haha! I actually thought about that for ten seconds.
Sounds like a fun idea, though!
Brandon, I call dibs on riding in that cart in the storage room. We can attach that to the back of your bike, I'll sit on a cooler back there with a whip for when you start slowing down. Hiyaaa hiyaaa!!
Since I've got this new car...maybe I can be the rescue vehicle? Cool Idea!
So I could drive into work early (free parking, right next to red line) - run down, have fun, then south shore back to Museum Campus, only a few blocks from red line, then back to car, then home, then die.
Sounds like fun!
Haha. What's a brisk 37 mile run, right?
You could then get a " 37.0 " sticker to affix to the bar of your car to wear as a badge of pride. And shame.
It would be 24 even from work, actually (I'm @ IIT). So it's really not *that* bad. It's only 28 from Union, but then it'd have to be on a Saturday so I could be on the first train from the suburbs to make it in time.
It would be 34 if I went all the way from home, which would still be a nice training run for a 50 miler :)
it is actually 26 miles from my house. Jeff we can skip this October 8th shit and just run to floyds!
I could probably be talked into doing this
I would probably do this. When?
No set date yet, Matt. Just trying to gauge interest. Ken also brought to my attention that we could make the destination 18th Street Brewery as well (similar ride length).
Since we're getting to the end of September & there are several events left on the calendar for this month, it would most likely take place in October (better biking weather anyways). I'm thinking the 10/7, 10/21, or 10/28 (we have an open house on the 14th).
Anyone who's interested in doing this please fill out the "Doodle," link below. Click all the dates (or non) that work for you. It takes 2 seconds. This will also give a good idea of who's interested.

I'm in! Probably wouldn't be able to make Oct 7 work though
Another option (if you could handle 3 more miles) is to go to Flossmor Station instead of South Shore and drink more beer, then hop on that train back home (goes all the way to Millenium).
I vote18th street, not the madhouse that Floyds is. They have bike racks on site and good beer and food. We might be able to park are bikes inside the loading dock if I talk to Drew. Depending on the weather they have a patio as well. Thoughts?
I've never been to Floyd's to eat, but everything I've run across so far about lunch on a Saturday definitely points to a madhouse. I would hate to put that work in and then have to wait around an hour for a table. 18th is also roughly 6.5 miles closer.
I'm open to whatever the majority decides!
James and I are interested. I'd be more for 18th Street or Flossmoor vs Three Floyds
So it it looks like Saturday, October 21st is the most popular date right now.
Now all that's left is to see where you guys would like to go. I hate to keep throwing polls at you guys, but it seems to be the most efficient way to do it. Vote with the below link ...

Alright guys, looks like 18th Street Brewery it is! 75% overall seem ok with this decision (see poll below).
Let's plan on 10am at Monroe Harbor on Saturday, October 21st. As the date gets closer I'll confirm again with those interested to make sure we know who to look for.
Also, the good news is this gives us a shorter ride! It's 22miles (1H 52MIN) from our meeting point (Monroe Harbor) to 18th Street in Hammond, IN.
As mentioned before, 18th Street should be able to accomodate us much easier than 3 Floyds. Ken or Chuck, would you mind giving them a heads up that we'll be coming around noon on 10/21?
From there it's also a much shorter ride to the nearest train station - 1.3 miles (Hammond stop on the SouthShore line). Below is the schedule back to Millenium station on Saturday
So we're looking at 23-24miles total (much better than the 37 miles planned for 3 Floyds). Let me know if you guys have any questions or suggestions!
I'll see y'all there. Looking at a hair under 20 if everything goes according to plan (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/gp/bookmark/view/id/7148391). I'll plan to leave around 8 - we'll see when/if you pass me.
Strange request - if I leave a pair of flip-flops at the brewhouse at some point, would someone mind bringing them with? I'm going to not want to wear shoes once I get there. TIA
Kyle, you're nuts! I won't be by the brewhouse beforehand on that day, but I'm sure we can work something out a week or so prior.
Looks like it is an even 30 miles from Uptown. Looking forward to it!
I spoke with Drew and he knows we are coming. I also got permission from him to park our bikes inside by the loading dock.
Thanks for reaching out, Ken!
Does anyone want to ride both ways? We could stop at maria's on our way back.
Glad we didn't pick today, huh!?
True Dat!
Dodged a bullet! Knock on wood, but so far the weather for next Saturday is a high of 73 and mostly sunny!
Sounds like patio weather to me!
Warm AND 15 mph dead-on headwind! If that's the case I'll meet you all at the bar.
crisp fall-weather day please
So I need to assess how easy/hard getting the floor out of my basement is going to be. Worst case, I'm going to need to spend Saturday getting that taken care of rather than drinking beer. Hopefully it's an easy fix that I can get through this week, but just a heads up I may need to back out.

Sounds good, Kyle. Sorry to hear about the flooding! That stinks.
Alright guys, we're only a couple days away from the ride! A few reminders:
1) We're meeting at 9:45am, and leaving at 10am sharp. If you're not there at 10am you'll be riding solo!
2) Meeting spot is at Monroe Harbor on the Lakefront trail (see the pin on the image below)
3) I'm not totally sure of all that will show up, so make sure you're on time so we don't leave without you! (text me with any concerns: 404-713-6511)
Hope to see you guys there!
So unfortunately I totally and utterly suck and won't be able to make it (I just feel bad hyping myself up for what was supposed to be a fun run for me!)
In addition to my basement woes, my daughter's volleyball team got into a tournament for this weekend and games start at 9AM Saturday morning.
I hope everyone has fun and is safe! Hopefully something like this can happen again and I can do something nice and crazy to tag along.
Brandon,
I will be waiting on you guys at Promontory Point on the south side.
I'm sorry to hear that, Kyle. Good luck to your daughter's team!
And we'll meet you @ Promentory Point, Ken. I'm expecting to arrive there around 1030 - 1035a. I'll call you when we're there if we can't see you.
anyone bringing a pump? decent chance someone gets a flat.
I'll have most basic equipment because in a time before kids, I used to commute to work.
I'll have a flat kit, pump and other stuff I don't think I ever used.
Upper respatory infection. I've got meds and will get some sleep tonight and we'll see what happens tomorrow morning. Don't wait for me
I will have a small pump with me and some extra tubes. There shouldn't be too much glass or anything else along the route.
I'm back in because I'm an idiot who can't read dates on volleyball schedules. Whooooo! See you guys there, I'll be the sweaty, smelly guy.
Ha! You're better man than me, Kyle! Good luck with that run.
And please double check your tire pressure before you head out tmrw. I'll help us avoid the flat situation.
I'm looking forward to this! Remember, get there at 9:45am bc we're leaving at 10am sharp. There are beers to be had after all!!!
so how'd it go ya jabronies?
It was pretty sweet! It was a smooth ride & we made great time despite the headwind. Good turnout, too! You were missed.
Loved the photos on Facebook!
Americo, Freddy and I had an impromptu CHAOS meeting Friday night. It went on a little too long and involved a few too many beers, perhaps, but the good news is I could walk home. It did occur to me the next morning that doing your ride hungover would have been . . . . . bad.

Benji and I rode the whole way back. Even with the crazy tailwind, I was hurting all over when I rolled up to my apartment at 6:30. The beers were solid. The bocce ball court was a blast.
The ride along the south shore area is really nice, and I was super impressed with the bike paths in Indiana, really beautiful prairie sections to roll through.
We should ride to Argus next year, that would be an easy one.
Ha, lucky we missed this guy on the south shore trail (photo below). A buddy of mine rode up right behind the guy driving on the over water section. Got out of his car and threw a beer bottle in the water, then took a piss over the railing. He got back in his car and gunned it into the railing bending the front passenger wheel. I wonder how they got that thing out of there?
Wow. What an idiot.
And we're off.rgiht on time
Steven racing the sailboat around northenly island
Encountered some other bar crawl or something
Pick up Ken and Chuck in Hyde Park
End of the lakefront path
had it not been 9am might have stopped for smoekd fish at this famous joint
Quick stop to raise some beer money
Tricky merge onto the Skyway
more gorgeous indiana nature
We arrive just past noon, drink 4 (or so) beers and eat some meat. Great time, like an mini vacation.
