Rechargeable Lighters

I saw these today on sale on Amazon for ~$10. Considering how quickly we go through lighters, and how shitty the ones we use typically are, these could be a nice, money-saving upgrade. Maybe someone has tried them out? Thoughts?

I didn't see a link in your

I didn't see a link in your post, Sean. After a quick look I saw this below:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0785D9ZMN/ref=mp_s_a_1_5_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1521814236&sr=8-5&keywords=rechargeable+lighter&dpPl=1&dpID=516XWwYTJ%2BL&ref=plSrch

The idea of a longer lasting lighter is great. But I don't think it outweighs the fact that most of our lighters go missing ... (most) don't just stop working.

A $2 missing lighter is much better than a $12 one.

I know there is this sense

I know there is this sense that peole walk away with them but we really don't know right? we buy super-cheap lighters that have short life-spans. I usually am trying to coax a flame out of the lighters seemingly on their last legs.

I brought in one of my own high-quality Bic lighters and left it for the club. It lasted there for a couple of weeks before it died a natural death. Plus perhaps peoole might be less willing to steal a fanciier lighter (if they are in fact taking them)

I could see having a "sacred"

I could see having a "sacred" spot on the wall for a nice rechargeable lighter (like the spot where we keep our thermometer). That could work.

We could always get a butane

We could always get a butane tank and a torch and keep it there. It would double as a way to flame sanitize flasks and glass carboy openings for yeast harvesting.

Kyle that's a great idea. We

Kyle that's a great idea. We did the same thing with the thermometer and it seems to have lasted a lot longer than the cheap plastic ones.

Well that seem a bit extreme

Well that seem a bit extreme to light a burner....

How many people would actually use it to harvest yeast? Honest question.

At least 1 :)

At least 1 :)

I was just giving an option of something that should and would last longer than a stick lighter that doesn't really cost that much.

Just causes you to turn on

Well, those wouldn't fit in the lighter hole on the burners and you'd have to turn the gas on first...

And those flint lighters can

And those flint lighters can also get stolen, much like our current lighters.

Yea but no one will take the

Yea but no one will take the "lighters" outside to light cigarettes. There's really no benefit to taking them outside the brewhouse, which is an added benefit.

True, but I thought there was

True, but I thought there was a gap between the burner & pot. That gap may not fit that Bear Grylls special, however.

Sean, given our current

Sean, given our current lighter shortage, keep in mind that any member can buy replacement equipment and submit a receipt without asking for under $50, I believe.
