It is with a heavy heart that I write this post. My wife got a job in North Carolina and we are going to be moving there in about one month. While this is a great opportunity for my family, sadly this means that I must leave Chaos for the time being, especially my roles as Vice President and Board member. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as VP and as a member of this club and am thankful for all the friends that I have made in the brewing community. If any of y'all are in the Raleigh/Durham area, please drop me a line and we can get together. I have lined up suitable replacements to fill my positions, the board has voted to accept them, and they have agreed to take the positions.
Jon Phillips will be taking over for me as Vice President. His focus on increasing membership and his connections with a lot of the newer members will help drive the club forward. He has a passion for brewing and a passion for Chaos and I think he'll do what it takes to get the job done.
For my board spot, I have asked James Tsai to take over until the next election and he has accepted. James previously served on the board, currently serves as Secretary, and importantly was at the board offsite meeting, thus understanding the current mission/drive of the board. There is probably no one else who's finger is closer to the pulse of this club than James.
Congratulations Jon and James on your promotions, hopefully you do the club proud!
Jay, you’ll be missed. Good luck in NC!
Sad to see you go, Jay.
I have confidence in who you picked, but doesn't general membership get to vote on new positions?
In a sense they did. Jon finished second by one vote in the VP race with only the two of us running and no one else ran for the board.
What Jay said. Jon was his competition for VP and came in second place, so it makes sense for him to cover the remainder of Jay's term.
If it were for the next 2 1/2 years, then, yes, I would agree that a vote should be held for the board spot. However, with James' experience as a board member and current position as my scribe, it makes sense for the board to appoint him as Jay's substitute until the election next April, as he he's already up to speed on current club administration and policy.
Best wishes on the next part of your adventure, Jay!
