Bill and Kevin - have you had anyone step up to do this? If not, I would be interested in putting together project with the keezer that would feature experimental and lesser-known-new hops. Let me know if you're interested in this.
Thank you Jim, I think that is an interesting idea. We had to other ideas, so i wanted to open it up to the club for feedback.
Other idea was to do evolution of trendy beers with an order like: IPA ,DIPA, Stout, Adjunct Stout, Fruited Sour, Lager. Another idea was to have different ABVs, such as 4%, 6% 8%, 10%, 12%, 14%.
Team please weigh in on if you want the Experimental Hops, Style Evolution, or the ABV theme.
I think Jim's idea is best if we're looking for educational value, and a good opportunity to sample new hop varieties people may have been reluctant to use.
I agree, I like the experimental hop idea, as well. My one point of input if we go this route, would be to brew beers that compliment the hops and not just the same style across the board.
For the new-or-experimental hops project, one approach would be to:
approach Farmhouse about it, see what John recommends and perhaps he'll contribute them as he did last time, get six new-ish or experimental hop varieties
once we know what varieties we'll be using, let brewers sign up for a single variety
ask the brewers, using what we know about the hops, to each pick a style that they think may show-off their hop's character, with the caveat that they must only use that particular hop
set deadlines, etc. to make sure this all happens within the next two months
But this is just an idea (and an offer to work on it). If someone else has a project they'd like to do, that would be great.
I like Jim's idea of the experimental hops the best out of those. I agree that it holds more weight as an educational idea too, which is a definite benefit.
I can get this going tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday - after that it will have to wait until the last week of March, because of my schedule. Let me know if you (Bill and Kevin) want me to start on this now or hold off.
Hey Jim. It sounds like the consensus is that your idea is the one we want to go with. Let’s get started on it! If you get the ball rolling tomorrow or Friday then I’ll be happy to take over some of the organization during your busy weeks.

I'll reach out to Farmhouse Thursday and get this going. I love trying new-to-me hops!
