Hey Everyone!
So the short of it is we need to get all the barrels emptied and ready for the move ASAP. I volunteered to coordinate an event to make this happen. I am scheduling an event for next Saturday. August 17th. I figure people can meet around 12-1. If you have brewed for any of the barrels that are currently filled please come and help empty them. Even if you don't have any beers in the barrels I would love to have members come out to help and also hang out. I know I would be willing to give a share of my beers to members who help me bottle etc. This will be one of the last Saturdays in our current home let's make it a fun one!
Barrel particiapants - we will be filling your corny keg or carboy. If you wish to bottle that day go for it. I hope we can get a big turnout and turn this into a fun Saturday. Feel free to bring beers to share and we can all hangout and order some pizzas too.
If you brewed for the barrel but cannot make it at all on Saturday you have two options. One is to have a cleaned and sanitzed carboy or keg labeled (with your name and which barrel you have beer in) and on the brewhouse floor before next Saturday. If it is there we will put your portion in it. Secondly, you have the option to come the next day or Monday and rack your beer out of the barrel. Your beer will be fine for a day or two even in a partially empty barrel, but I wouldn't leave it for more than a few days. If you don't claim your beer after a couple days we will then keg it for the club to drink!
I am not sure if we have decided to keep or scrap all the used barrels once they are empty, but I am fairly sure Iggi's barrel which has been empty for a while is no good. If we wanted to I was thinking we could have a bonfire and maybe roll the barrel into said fire! Let me know if you have any questions about anything or issues with my proposed plan and post below that you can make it.
Again if you have beer in a barrel please make every effort to come out and help on Saturday.

Thanks for setting this up Kyle, I will be there!
i got some bottles soaking for this.
tho in regards to my barrel, i would like to keep it for landscaping purposes.

Fair enough Iggi. Perhaps one of the barrels upon emptying (that we think has seen its last use) will find its way on a celebratory bonfire. Glad to see some people confirming their participation, but I urge everyone to try and make this event. If you have beer in a barrel, well im sure you want it back, and this is THE time to do it! If you don't have a stake in these projects well come out anyway hang out, lend a helping hand and have some beers with us!
I should be able to swing by for a few minutes late morning just to wash/sanitize a carboy/keg. So sorry I can't stay! I plan to bottle on Tuesday.
I think I brewed for one of the barrels...I think it was for Daniel's barrel (or, at least, Daniel knows which barrel I brewed for).
I'm an idiot. I thought TODAY was the 17th.
I should be able to be there for a time NEXT Saturday. See you gents then!
I'm bumping this up cause I have only heard from a few people who will be attending. I know we have at least 15-20 people with a batch of beer in one of our 4 barrels that will be emptied. I URGE you to show up on Saturday and collect your portion. I don't think you want to let your beer sit in a half empty barrel and possibly get spoiled after waiting all this time.
I will be there keg in hand, although I probably will duck out to go build
I will be there to help bottle or anything needed.
Im also planning on buying at least 1 new barrel for the club after we figure out which ones are spent. Ive reached out to both copers hawk and city winery which will have used 55 gal wine barrels available early oct.
Also who ever will be in charge of designing building the new barrel storage system im willing to help.
So I have been thinking about the best method for emptying all of these barrels on Saturday. I realized that using the March pump is not wise. I think it "beats" up the beer while transferrring and has a high likelihood of aerating the beer. Rather than just using auto-siphons I think we should follow this procedure.

In short I would buy a 30 inch stainless racking cane. We would use co2 to push the beer out through the racking cane. Thereby avoiding any chance of oxidation and providing a easy and quick emptying solution. I think I could pick all the components up for less than $30. Let me know if you think this is a good solution and I will gather the materials. Again check the links for a good breakdown of the process.
as long as we dont blow shit up, sure

Co2 racing sounds great, and could be used in conjunction with the pump. Afaik, as long as there's no air in the line to begin with, the pump won't introduce any air.
My thoughts on not using pump in addition to the chance for oxidation are contamination.
Also Iggi I would only be using about 2 PSI to effectively start the siphon and the co2 will just help to blanket the beer and force it out.
I'm probably not going to be able to drop off a keg in time. Could someone do me a solid and put our portion of the Elixir of Life in a carboy? I'll get it back to them early next week.
Is there anyone coming from the North side, around Logan Square area that would be willing to give me a ride down on Saturday?

Chris, I have a carboy at the brewhouse you can use.
If you cannot make it there tomorrow you must have your carboy labled with your name and which barrel your beer is coming from. It must be sanitized and ready to go. That is the only way I will be able to keep track. I do not have individual lists with who participated in what barrels so you must label your container so we know.
I will definitely leave clean/sanitized carboys. I know I brewed for the Elixir barrel; but, I'm pretty sure there's another one for which I brewed but I've forgotten which it was! I think it was Daniel's barrel...
Just make sure its also written on the container so I don't have to dig through this thread tomorrow to see who has what.
false alarm. I dropped off a keg this morning. Labeled, cleaned, sanitized and purged. I also dropped off a box of boxes for moving. thanks again Chuck
I brewed 5 gallons for the bourbon county stout barrel. I am unable to attend the barrell emptying on Saturday because of a wedding. I do however have a corny keg at the brewhouse that I purchased from Pete. The corny should have a blue piece of tape on it with my name on it. Can someone make sure it gets filled with the bourbon county stout please? Thanks in advance.

I stripped bottles and left them in two of the big bins. One is just water, the other is PBW. So the ones in the PBW need to be rinsed off, but I am sure thay are clean at this point. The bottles are free for anyone to use (and I made sure they are not iggys)
I also left an extra keg just in case. If there is unclaimed beer for the club you can put it in that.
Thanks for filling the carboy Jessica, baby Flynn and I thank you all very much for you work. I saw the video. Looked like a busy day.
