Yeah, we were looking at this the other day. The water profile features look like a great feature.
If you pre-order, you get a nice discount - I just did that.

So Brad's taken a page out of the major software book and moved to a yearly subscription model? No thanks.
There is an option for a one-time purchase. But when major updates happen, you'd have to pay for them. Six-of-one or half-dozen-of-another kind of thing, cost-wise.

I guess it depends on what you buy. "The basic license is equivalent to the old BeerSmith 2 license in that you pay once. It includes minor upgrades only, a free cloud account for up to 15 recipes and up to two computer activations."
Mayhaps CHAOS should get in early and get these dealz, subscription or basic. I for one use BeerSmith on the club computer every time I brew.
If we're going to upgrade to v 3.0, we definitely should do it now - either the subscription or one-time purchase. Both are deals compared to waiting.

Just bought my yearly sub. I use it enough and like having space for 150 recipes on the cloud, since you can now organize the cloud with folders and such.

Question: I haven't used the club one. Do you log in as yourself and it has all your settings and profiles, or are you just entering your recipe in whenever you brew and using whatever equipment profiles CHAOS has?
Not that I need to, but I authorize funding for the club to purchase the new version for our brew house computer.
Rich, with the desktop version you don't login, its just tied to the activation code. So its the club's. I don't use the club's much, just to check on things occasionally, so maybe others have a more sophisticated way of using it.

The current version of BrewSmith has the option of adding in whirlpool hops, and whirlpool time (above 180F). I've found this really helpful in trying to calculate actual IBUs with all those late addition the kids are doing lately...
I'll revisit this thread with a screen shot of what I'm talking about. Also, 2 stage (any stage really) starters are available for calculation here: Yeast Starter Calculator.
That said, the automatic water profile based on your recipe is intriguing. It might save a Brun' Water step. Either way - like El Presidente said - I'll all for getting this for the club. Just don't tell Brad Smith. He might go bat sh!!t like someone else I know. He name may or may not rhyme with Fartin.
Rich - You can login to your own BeerSmith cloud account and download your recipe to the brew house's laptop, but I think thats about it.

I'm going to buy a Gold Subscription for the CHAOS computer.
Brandon - I might be wrong here, but while you can designate whirlpool hops in the current version, I think the theoretical IBU calculations are not accurate.
This is how I factor in IBUs in the whirlpool with the current version:
Specifying Steep/Whirlpool on your hop selection is not enough - You have to check your equipment profile (circled) and specify how long you'll whirlpool for:
You then need to check the box that says "Estimate Boil Hop Util In Whirlpool" and put in your estimated time you'll be above 85C:
Maybe the new one has a better way of doing it? Seems to work pretty good for me so far.
And . . . . its here! Beersmith v 3.0 is available for download at http://beersmith.com/ I had prepurchased and found the download, activation and importing of recipes from v 2.0 to be easy.
