Although I'm the treasurer, I have absolutely no clue as to how to prepare taxes for either our current Not For Profit entity or for our potential 501(c)(3) entity. I think for the former it's form 1120; for the latter it's 990.
I would like to learn how to do this so, ideally, we work through it together so that I can do it in subsequent years. Less ideally, but also perfectly acceptable, is I hand over all our receipts, bank statements, and whatever else you need, and you just do it for us.
If I understand our situation correctly (and I think I do), we incorporated in August of 2012; our fiscal year ended in August of 2013; we have five months + 15 days after that to file. So, we need to file our taxes by mid-January 2014.
If you or someone you know can help CHAOS out, we should start the ball rolling!!
I did some research, while our 501c3 is pending we can still file the 990. If it's ultimately denied, we'd have to go back and do the 1120.
got a letter for some fee to pay to the state. its $10. something for the NFP
...igz...
also, please make all attempts to remove my name from documents associated with taxes and corporations

I'm bumping this up again. I've e-mailed two people over the course of the past 8 months and both seem to have fallen through. If you or someone you know can do taxes for CHAOS (they'll need to be prepared/submitted in January due to the date of our formation), please contact me ASAP at jim@chaosbrewclub.net. Thanks in advance!
The 990 isn't too hard. And we qualify for the 990-N. I can help you with it. Maybe we can get together one afternoon / evening first week of Jan?
Are we officially approved as a 501(c)(3)? Did you hear back from the IRS? Or, can we operate as one while our application is pending? I thought we had to file an 1120.
At any rate, Mel (Lucas' girlfriend) has offered to help, too. Maybe the three of us need to coordinate for a day in January to sit down and hash this tax stuff out. I would indeed like to learn how to do all this myself for next year.
If all you need is the 990-N, I don't think you really need me to meet with you also, but I can if you want. This is the info for the 990-N:

I was thinking Benderbrau if it's an ale, Botweiser if it's a lager.
Great! I downloaded these forms a while back when we first applied. Lemme take a look at the 990-N and see if I have any questions.
Thanks, Mel and Mark!
