EVENTS LIST QUESTIONNAIRE

these are some questions to the typical chaosbrewclub.net website user in regards to our event listing on the side tool bar. please offer us some feedback...

how many of you regularly check out the events section to see whats going on?

what do you want to see in an event listing other than the obvious details of location and time?

do you want to see event listings other than just CHAOS' such as tastings at restaurants/bars that are not necessarily hosted by a CHAOS member or committee?

what would you add to the event posting?

did you know you can create/post your own event?

any other questions to ask?

we would like to hear your thoughts...

I'm not sure too many people

I'm not sure too many people are seeing this, Iggy.

Maybe we hvae a "Did you know..." section of the weekly digest where we include stuff like you list above and tell people how to do it. "Did you know... you yourself can add any beer event you want to our calendar? Just click X, Y, then Z."

I'd also love to know how

I'd also love to know how people would like to be notified of new events being created on the site.

  • Do people want more than the digest that we're planning right now?
  • How would you like to handle the attendance?
  • If you say you're attending, do you want a reminder email before hand or are we going a bit email crazy?

Oh... my... god.  Why haven't we done this?    http://thechive.com/2013/09/17/guys-rig-up-buddies-plumbing-with-beer-wh...

My $0.02 -

My $0.02 -

  • if all new/upcoming events are going to be in the weekly digest and the weekly digest is going to every, single, last e-mail we have, then I don't think it's necessarily to announce events more than the weekly digest. Our seasonal membership appreciate events are advertised in different ways above and beyond the Hoppy Hours and classes, &c.
  • I would add two ideas to this. (1) If there is a way to get a red circle, yellow circle, green circle right next to (or above or below) the event on the main page (i.e., not going, maybe going, definitely going), perhaps it could boost interest/attendance since people don't have to go to the actual event listing and then find the "I will attend" link which is dwarfed/hidden by all the other info above it in the listing. (2) I like the way Ning did it where, on the event listing, there was a column to the right showing hte profile photo of everyone going; everyone invited; everyone "maybe"; everyone "not going".
  • If someone says they're attending we should most definitely send out reminder e-mails. Not an insane amount but there should be weekly reminders between the RSVP date and the date of the event; no fewer than one reminder. Any way we can automatically individualize the weekly digest somehow? i.e., on the weekly digest it will show the upcoming events. Any way to put a check mark next to the one(s) which a user has RSVP'd for (I'm all about automating stuff to free up some manpower for other stuff).

I've said this to Lucas in

I've said this to Lucas in person, too, and I'll post it up here. I'd like the "Friend" function to be more usable. I'd like to be able to do what I did on Ning: be notified when someone signs up for the site; be able to friend them (and have them see and notice the friend invite); to be able to invite friends to events. I was friends with a few hundred of the 700+ users on the Ning site and I always invited them to events, esp. the important ones (I always assumed it sent an e-mail notification to them and not a PM solely on the Ning site). I felt that got the word out about events pretty well and, above and beyond pushing events, I made some personal connections.

I felt that this bumped attendance at events by at least a couple heads. But, please do dispel my delusion if you really don't think that was the case...
