I came into the brewhouse this morning and there was StarSan or something similar in a bucket in the sink. The chiller was still assembled with feed and drain hoses still attached . Thank you Steven Lane for disassembling that.
When you walking into a dirty brewhouse you tend to not trust anything at that point. So I washed down all the counters, sink and floors. I washed the Floors 2x actually with water, push broom and the squeegee.
This might be a little OCD on my part but again, when you find things not put away and other surfaces dirty you don’t want to risk your brew & brewday.
I definitely paid it forward for the next brewer. So should you!
I left the starsan in the bucket in the sink, as I was in and out of the BH in about 10 minutes and thought it might be useful for someone else and didn't want to wate it...sorry if it made you afraid
Thanks for the extra effort, James. The brewhouse did look pristine when I went there ~4:30p to keg up a beer (beside the leaking ceiling). Sorry you had to clean twice.
Quick thought for whoever may have a laminator is to make a sign stating "Star San made on ______ at: ______am/pm By: ___________" where the spaces would correspond to the day, time (circle am/pm), and then a brewer name.
And have a dry erase marker handy. Can also make one for PBW and also have them for the keg/fermentor wash stations.
It is disconcerting to see buckets of mystery liquid, but it's also wasteful to make a batch of Starsan or PBW for a 10 minute job and dump it down the drain when we're done.
Perry, thanks for taking care of that next time, it happens. Reed, thanks for wanting to conserve SarSan. Unfortunately when I got there and I had to appraise the situation I had to assume it was left as part of the previous brew day. Unless you can leave a note or let the incoming brewcrew know you're leaving fresh chemicals for them you might as well dump it.

I like that idea Kyle. Might save a lot of starsan use. I have an extra white board at home. If the club wants it think it would be ideal to write on there how fresh the starsan is
I have a laminator if someone wants to send me a .pdf to print and laminate.
