Kyle brought in a marked vial for measuring Star San, Rich brought in a paint pen and I carefully measured and marked the Starsan tub for 5 gallons, and Steven and I worked on a sheet of instructions and guidelines for sanitizing. Its laminated and currently sitting by the Starsan pump bottle, although it may end up being posted/hung somewhere more prominent.
This is a great step forward - its educational for brewing members who may not know the details about proper brewing sanitation, and it also makes it more convenient for everyone to use the correct and effective ratio of Starsan to water. Woohoo!
Big thanks to Jim, Rich, and Steven. There are additional, pre-marked tubes behind the bar on one of the shelves. Let's hope they don't wander off. It actually fits nicely shoved in the hole (huh huh huh) between the handle and bottle of the 1 gallon pump container of SS.
Well done guys, thanks for doing this.
I have to admit - I've always been weary of using other people's sanitizer buckets in fear of how they actually measured. Fear no longer!
Also, I've read that you can test the effectiveness of StarStan if you take a pH reading - as long as it stays below 3 you're good to go. Is there any interest in getting strips to test a tub that's been in use all day?
These strips are only 5 bucks and it's 2 packs of 100, and the pH goest from 1-14

Yes, thanks for clarifing the proceedure for star san!
Brandon, if mixed properly, a Star San solution made up at 7 in the morning should still be good at 7 at night. Since the mixture gets dumped every day, then I don't think strips would really be a benefit. If we were to start wanting to not dump the Star San and reuse it, then it could be an option, although ones with a smaller window (say pH 1-4) would be more accurate.
Good Work!!!
This is so great!
