There are currently several initiatives which are only awaiting man-power and all the great ideas still untapped among our supportive members. Kevin Schwartzenberg had a great idea of having a Google Docs to which everyone may contribute (we did this for the Finance Committee and 501c3 decision with great success). Click on the link below to see the current initiatives.
This Google Docs is only rudimentary. But, just a few ground rules:
- This is a clearinghouse of ideas; ANY/ALL ideas are welcome. Please, feel free to add as many ideas or as much information as you'd like to an already-existing tab; or, feel free to add another tab (an initiative you'd like to see CHAOS and the members pursue);
- Anyone may enter information but please do not edit or delete what others have entered;
- You may edit anonymously. But, I kindly ask that you put your name under "Your Name" so that we know who to follow up with for clarification or, at the least, so that we know who to thank for the suggestions/ideas.
Lastly, if anyone can think of a better format/venue for this (what I call) "clearinghouse of ideas", please feel free to e-mail me on my page or at jwchochola@hotmail.com.
The newsletter is definitely something we could feed from site content if someone is willing to format it and get it all put together. Content may also be a bit of a problem, although I do know that a couple people have expressed interest in writing, so that would help.
Oh... my... god. Why haven't we done this? http://thechive.com/2013/09/17/guys-rig-up-buddies-plumbing-with-beer-wh...
I contacted a couple more grain places.
The membership cards are nearly done; Real Estate is clipping along.
We still need someone to do a newsletter. Perhaps I'm thinkin' relatively old-school: .pdf which shows up in everyone's e-mail once per month. The point person on this ideally comes to meetings and checks the site (in order to be up-to-date on CHAOS happenings); this point person also receives photos, &c. from other members. S/He then does (minimal) compilation and formatting and hands it off to someone with blast e-mail powers.
Keep the ideas coming for places we want membership card perks. Very soon I will be mailing in the application for incorporation. We could have it very soon and at that point I will simply print out the list of establishments in the Google Doc, hop on my bike, and start vising places on the list.
Yes, that's the idea.
I'm no tax person, everything I know is solely from all the research/discussion about 501c3 but FountainHead could consider anything they give to CHAOS (directly or indirectly), a donation/deduction.
question for those in the know: if fountainhead decides to give us a 10% discount if we show our Chaos card, and I go in there with my wife and spend $100, is that $10 discount i'm given tax deductible to fountainhead (assuming we're 501c3)?
i'm honestly just wondering and i have no idea, although i would lean towards 'no'
Well...no, not technically.
Anyone and everyone can just throw money at us; even right now when we're not even incorporated. It may or may not, however, be tax-deductible for the business. If, however, we're a 501c3, anything a business throws at us is tax-deductible. I'm just trying to sweeten the deal for the business, make it more appealing (even if marginally) to give us discounts.
Do we have to be 501c(3) in order to get discounts due to AHA club membership? That can happen as soon as we proceed with the cards, can it not? I can help out and do the ones up north once we have a set plan for what we're offering in return.
Also, the easiest thing on the initiatives is the list of pubs/shops/restaurants where we'd like to get discounts. As soon as we can legally solicit "charitable contributions," I'm will visit all of the places listed and get the CHAOS membership discount program going. Let me know where you'd like me to go!
Had an update for grain removal a few days ago.
If it's all the same to you, I like the Google Doc we have going. As long as this discussion remains visible, people have access to it (unlike other lists which have been buried in hundreds of posts/comments). I'll put it up ASAP.
sure, you could attach it or make a new sheet. Up to you. It could even be another subgroup tab on the site. Dunno. Things like this and that should be stickied so they don't get lost.
Daniel, I said that I would help with inventorying the brew house. I started that today; where should we put it? Another tab on the "Initiatives" Google Doc?
I updated this, if you gave me your name at the meeting I signed you up. Someone from each section should each work on contacting the others on the list to coordinate a good time to get together and work on things.
We could also use a design for the membership card. Anyone who's a good graphic artist, please, have at it! Please use the template below and e-mail it to me at jwchochola@hotmail.com

I'm adding group buys to the list of initiatives; how sweet would it be to have regular grain and hop group buys...
$2500 - $5000? ya, the other option is ~$0.60/piece

If anyone wants to start designing a card, find the template for one company below.
Nice work!
As far as my duties go, I found individual/personalized cards for $10+/piece. Can we just assume for the membership cards that we're making 250-500 of the same, exact card and then having some kind of sticker for expiration?
currenty, i have two real estate agents lined up...

Great idea, but I can't take the credit this one. Someone else brought up the Google Doc idea. Maybe Andrew.
