I brewed my red ale today..

I brewed my red ale today...and my Mash ph stayed at 5.0...usually its around 5.4... we shall see how the beer tastes in 6 weeks...  BTW since I put the total amount of mash/sparge water into the HLT i just add all the additives to that...and let it sit over night...

Hey James...

I broke out the sheet and added my numbers from my Ward Labs tested water sample (Worth, IL) and based on that spread sheet (V3.0) I do not need to do anything to the water for a balanced beer...I am shooting for a SRM of 15.4 on a red ale...

Then I broke out the easy calculator(v3.02)..and it seemed easier to read...it bases its numbers on the type of grain used and qty. It indicated I was out of balance and I had to add 7g of gypsum and 7g of calcium chloride.

I am going to set up my water tonight and pitch the additions for tomorrows brewing...

Just thought I would share the info...feel free to respond with any input...
