Just had North Coast's Blue

Just had North Coast's Blue Star Wheat and it's the first north coast I've had that didn't blow me away.  It was sort of unremarkable.  Had the same distinct flavor that I get in their Scrimshaw pilsener, not sure if it's the yeast or malt.  The flavor just didn't work as well in the wheat.

I think English just means

I think English just means you use english hops instead of American and english yeast instead of american?  English = more earthy and spicy where American is more highly hopped, citrus and pine?  English yeast gives off some subtle fruit notes whereas american is pretty neutral?  I think?

We just started receiving blvd at whole foods this past week.  Their IPA, their Quad, and their Saison at my location (Roos and Canal).

tried a Left Hand 400 Pound

tried a Left Hand 400 Pound Monkey - an english IPA.  absolutely delicious, no overpowering hops yet effectively bittered.

now i need to research the differences between IPA, English IPA, American IPA (?)

David and I spent the weekend

David and I spent the weekend in Michigan.  We went up to Shorts Brewery in Bellaire, MI.  I tried several new beers while we were there.  They had a couple of dessert beers available: Key Lime Pie and Carrot Cake.  Key lime was okay, but the Carrot Cake was awesome!!  It tasted like liquid carrot cake!  I just had a 4oz sample size and that was perfect, not sure you could drink an entire pint of this beer, but it was delicious!   Brought back some Mystery Stout.  Haven't tried it yet, but will let you know what I think when I do.

Dark Horse Plead the 5th is

Dark Horse Plead the 5th is fucking killer.  Just picked up a 6er of Great Divide's Titan IPA.  I haven't had a beer with such great pine-tasting hops in a long time.  It was also amazing.

trying a southampton cuvee

trying a southampton cuvee des fleurs.  yum.  called a saison/farmhouse on the interwebs, but bottle doesnt call itself that.  brewed with flowers - l.augustifolia, a. nobilis, c. officnalis, and h. lupulus.

bit matelic tasting.  pours a cloudy light amber, very floral aroma (duh), and a mild bitter finish.

its good, but not great, wouldnt necessarily reach for it again.

today, right now.  like right

today, right now.  like right now.  tho probably not when you are reading this...i tried a Peak Organic Simcoe (r symbol) Sping Ale.  holy fuck, good.  im not a big fan of PA/IPA as im not a big fan of hop dominated flavors.  tho this may be the first balance of hop dominant beer that i really said yum to.  its a mellowed hop flavoe.  everyone says 'piney and citrusy' about simcoe.  i can see the piney aspect but citrus, eh.  it has a beautiful rich amber color with a picture perfect head when poured. it makes me happy, and winston likes it, too.

I just tried "sixth glass"

I just tried "sixth glass" from blvd brewing. They just started distributing in the chicago area not too long ago. The beer was very tasty..lots of dried fruitiness from the belgian yeast. Caramel, good malt...definitely a good belgian style quad ale.

Awesome!  You made it to

Awesome!  You made it to Dillon, CO!  I hope it was as quaint and fun as I remember it to be.

I tried the Dam Chili lager at the Dam Brew Pub in Dillon, Co. It was spicey, but not hot and had a clean dry finish. Also had the Dam Straight Lager - very malty with a touch of hops. Also visited Tommyknockers in Idaho Springs and had their Hop Strike black IPA - very dark and bitter. On the way to Great Divide Brewery now...

went on a quick excursion in

went on a quick excursion in the downpour to Noble Grape at chicago and noble.  mostly a wine shop but they have a few brews on hand.  apparently we just missed the brewers, but the store staff was still sampling some Wild Onion Brewing (outta Barrington, IL).  They had their Summer Wit and some bleh pale ale.  But the Summer Wit was pretty good, good enough to bring home a can 6 pack of it.  its quite spicy for a wit, but enjoyable.  maybe we should pay them a visit on a class trip one day. the can says they have a pub and restaurant. damn marketing.

Yuengling needs to be nation

Yuengling needs to be nation-wide.  I drank it a lot when living in the south.  It's nice to have a much tastier beer at the same price as bud light and pbr.

Not a new beer by any means..

Not a new beer by any means...but I'm on the east coast in Philly....drinking a Yuengling.  Reminds me of High School.  I also cracked open a Troegs Nugget Nectar, another old east coast stand-by.

Saisons will be my focus for

Saisons will be my focus for a while, so I was pleasantly surprised when Sam Adams summer sampler included a new offering - the Rustic Saison. I cracked it open, only to be a bit dissapointed that its over hopped. You can still pick out the typical saison flavors, but the hop just remains a bit overpowering on the pallet. Its also very clear, looks like a pilsner when poured in a glass. I rate it a 'meh'.
