Hey guys..i was trying to think of a event that i could spearhead and this is what i came up with. I would like to host a can you brew it workshop. I think it would be fun for anyone interisted in locating flaws in their process. There are a bunch of recipes on the jamil show for beers we can get locally. I think this would be beneficial because we can compare each brewers version to the commercial example...and then have a discussion on why we did or did not come close to the real thing. This would provide honest feedback on each of our beers to locate flaws in our process that we might not know about. We could also learn from the folks that nail the beer and find out what they are doing right in their brewing process. What do you guys think?

workshop idea
Love this idea. I think we can learn a lot from this.

I think this is a GREAT idea!
the two i have done personally is the firestone walker union jack and stone levitation ale. They were both pretty basic to brew and turned out well....not sure if i cloned them i didnt buy a control at the time...but i still had kick ass beer. If your not familiar with the brewing network.....you should check out the jamil show....you can get all of these recipies from the brewer themselves.....
The beers on their podcast list that i have seen around town are.....lagunitas ipa, censored, little sumpin sumptin, maximus......... stone levitation......rogue dead guy ale, shakespeare stout...........magic hat number 9................dogfish head 120 ipa...........firestone walker union jack, mission street pale..........sierra nevada celebration (christmas time)
the two i would suggest to start this series of workshops ....would be the firestone walker union jack and stone levitation....they were both possible with extract and didnt have any crazy brewing process involved.....and they are both my favorite beers to drink :)
i would recommend simple/straighforward recipes to start off with...

I like this idea...what recipes were you thinking of doing?
Yeah...i noticed that we all had much diffrent beers with the same recipe .....thats what spawned this idea....
The way i think it should work is to have 2 beers to choose from. Ill post the all grain and extract recipes.....then we choose a date to have it done. Ill pick up a 6 pack of thoes beers so we have a "control" sample. We can then share our beer next to the control and get honest feedback from our peers.......and a examination of our processes. This should not be a bashfest......it should provide a way to get constructive criticism so that we all can become better brewers.....i definitely want to hear from the guys that can clone these..i know i could learn from them ....the end goal is to be brewing beer as good as the professionals .....i think we could do something like this once every two months......
i like it. we experienced this a bit while sampling all the different brews of the same recipe that was going into the barrels.
this would also yield us a lot of beer! maybe have groups of three, doing say 3 or 4 beers?
