I think we should have a brew registration fee of say $5. This will cover costs for buying some cups, trash bags, table clothes print material, and what not.
I like David's idea, too. We could maybe have it as an in-between event, where it isn't a fundraiser per say but we can have beer on draft, maybe some snack foods. We can create little voting sheets like you had for stout night.
Here's a thought...Why dont we open this to anyone in the club...all members. You have to have the beer ready by say early April. We have an event, on X day at X time - X time. You must bring a full 5 gallons...(save a 6 pack). We do it shoot out style. Everyone serves there own beer. The crowd picks a winner by voting.
I would hold the competition April 14 or 15....beer has to be submitted by the 17th...
Just my .02 here...I doubt brewing to style will get you a win...I bet they are looking for something like Dave's Citra Stout. They are looking for something unique...and being a west coast brewer..It better have a prominent hop profile...
This sounds fucking awesome! Guess I have to start brewing to style sometime. I think all we need is someone to step up and structure and organize our internal competition. Also, Dave, it looks like you need to RSVP by the end of the month.
The winner needs to submit a 6-pack by April 17th(Tuesday)...judging will be April 20th(Friday)...
Not sure if we have a competition or event czar...but someone should organize this event for the club and run it as internal competition. Maybe invite a couple BJCP judges to help out...hold the contest on April 14th (Saturday)... I think it would be fun...basically you have three months to brew this....
I'm up for either (1) a group brew and if we happen to win we then decide who goes to CA (rather than worrying about it right now before a beer has even been brewed and the contest even won); or (2) choosing a beer that someone has already brewed. Is there any restriction against my #2? We could try to reinvent the wheel but if someone has already brewed/is already brewing something tasty, why not just tweak and/or re-brew that?
Its suppose to be a single brewers beer. The reason being they are giving away a trip to the brewery. So if we do a group collaboration beer how do we decide who gets the trip if we won?
Based on the memo....it looks like it would be a internal club contest...judged within the club and the winner's brew would be forwarded to the "final round"
Even though this event seems like it is asking for group participation it is a individual's event. They are asking the homebrew club to do the first round judging.
If you do as Kyle suggests and win, then who is going to get to go to California?
Yeah, I read the description only cursorily; I didn't get whether it could be a single beer from a group of us (like we did for Hoptacular) or if it would/should be a single person's brew.
Ya I think rather than "compete" against each other for the winning entry we all help to brew a few different beers and send along the one we all like the most.
ok with me.

How does Saturday March 31st sound?

I really like David's idea. +1 as they say. Involve everyone in the brewing and voting.
David, were you thinking one of our regular big, fancy soirees or just a no-frills, come-and-taste-and-vote kinda deals?

What about anyone can brew, Alchemists judge?
We then set an internal deadline for a week or two before the official deadline?
We are registered...FYI. I already took care of that. We just need to develop a format and figure out how we want to run this thing.
What are our deadlines?
No one interested in doing the organizing?

This looks great! I like the idea of maybe having an internal competition/event. Maybe we can talk about it on the event list?

Ah, okay, I get it. Thanks for clarifying, Ed!

Yes let's do it!!! So should we brew up a few batches for testing?
I say YES!!!!!!
We definitely should enter this!
I believe we are...
Ummm...we aren't a AHA sanctioned home brew club are we?
