David,

David,

We're already doing a 2 for 1 (well, 60 for 30) for the Daily Candy deal.  While we may want to be careful how explicitly we mention Stout Night in the Daily Candy deal, we can certainly make it known that the "discounted" Daily Candy trial memberships include admittance to members-only events such as the upcoming Stout and Chili Night.

I should also put out there that while our focus should be on higher
level membership - it offers more, helps club, and avoid repeat
sign-up for events - that we also have to be aware that the higher
levels don't fit to every member.
The draw from an event like this (a membership drive, in essence) is
largely comprised of people that are not well versed on what we do as
a club. This event should be a stepping stone towards showing people
what a higher level membership can offer.

The trial is a great way to reach a large segment of
people...extending will only help, allowing them more of chance of
checking things out in addition to allowing us to promote the event
sooner.

I've filled out the basic

I've filled out the basic info for the Daily Cand deal (but we'll get a chance to revise and add) and did mention our "Membership Appreciation Events" and that Stout & Chili Night will be Jan 26th. I explicitely made sure to not call it a party or mention homebrew, just "15-20 unique beers".

It seems my stout has

It seems my stout has acquired a strong scottish accent after fermentation. I thought the first runnings would leech off all the peet smoke and the small beer would be less smokey. The reverse is true. The smaller drier beer has less residual sugars to compete with the smoke.

Scotch Stout it is.

I have an idea that I thought

I have an idea that I thought I'd share.  We might ask each Stout night participant to bottle one or two bottles of their brew, and we could maybe raffle off the collection of complete sets.   I'd certainly buy a few of those raffle tickets!

Josh,

Josh,

I don't think it's advisable to give any impression that we're exchanging homebrew for money. That would be awesome, though.

If we had a club beer

If we had a club beer competition, could select club beer be the prize?
Beer for Beer?

I think Stout & Chili Night would be perfect for a club competition.
It's the only thing we do were everyone is brewing in the same category.

I love the idea of winning

I love the idea of winning beers and I think we can either give you a raffle ticket for free for attending or have it a competiton between the beer entries.

What about having a competition with a voting ballot but the person who corr=
ectly picks the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place beers in exact order wins 3rd prize;=
the person who picks 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places beers in exact order win=
s 2nd prize; and the person who picks the top five beers in exact order wins=
1st prize.

I don't even know if this is logically possible (i.e., is it too easy to get=
multiple 1st place winners) but I was just trying to come up with some way t=
o encourage people to actually taste all the beers, really consider all of t=
hem, and actually use and turn in the ballot.

Two ideas.

Two ideas.

First, could we collect money for a charity raffle with the bottles as a prize, or would that present the same problem?  If we paired up with the right charity, it might increase our general attendance, assuming that's what we want.

Second, it might be fun to organize a "show and tell".  Interested parties could each brew a beer and bottle one bottle for all other participants.  We could each brew a favorite beer or something like that, and pick a date in April or May to exchange bottles.

I think for the time being,

I think for the time being, Josh, there should be no cash at events in any way, shape, or form. But pairing with a charity might work in the future (esp. for our winter event(s) where standing around in the yard is not really an option, we can't have hundreds of people at an event).

I would totally participate in the "show and tell." Get it on the calendaR! :-)

Josh,

Josh,

I think we should avoid any money exchanging hands for the raffle.  We can just do a straight raffle, where everybody present gets a ticket for free and the winner gets whatever beer-related prize we decide upon.

I think the show and tell idea is a great one.  Start a new thread for it and we can make it happen.

Well let's leave the raffle

Well let's leave the raffle idea to the next party.  It just sounded so great to have all of the stout entries bottled up for a lucky winner.

I will try to figure out how to start a new thread for the show and tell.

there's a reserving brew time

there's a reserving brew time for 6 pm on january 26th for me and the comments say 'Stout Night'.  I don't know how to make an entry for an event rather than a bay reservation.  Does that happen when we create an events page?  I'll work on writing up a blurb for an event ad in the next day or two.  Stephen, do you have a finalized poster image i could use for the event page or should I use the one you posted?

I have 2 Stout & Chili Night

I have 2 Stout & Chili Night designs.

The following landscape design is for print flyers and poster (suitable for an online image gallery or FB post).

Here is a PRINT READY FLYER of the above design:
- 2 flyers per 8.5 x 11 in page, Download PDF (right click to save)

The smaller portrait version is for event pages, most online calendars create a small thumbnail for event pages, this file will be more legible and look better as a thumbnail.

Great work Steven! Are you

Great work Steven! Are you able to print a stack to leave at the BH for people to distribute around town? Daniel, where do we stand on planning issues other than volunteers to set up and clean up? Let us know on here or in the events committee forum what you need help on.

I'm going to make a separate thread (that links back to the original post with the spreadsheet) for people that aren't following this thread to volunteer.

Two questions for Stout Night

Two questions for Stout Night organizers:

(1) Can you take into account what paper/plastic goods we already have on hand at the brew house when buying additional paper/plastic goods for Stout Night?

(2) May I sell CHAOS taster glasses at Stout Night? I ordered another round of the very same ones we used for Ides and I anticipate they will have arrived before Stout Night.

I'm sure that the comittee will figure out what size glasses will be
need, but it may work out that the glasses we do have may be too big,
if indeed we are having as many beers as propossed.

I don't think it is wasteful to buy more glasses...what was remaining
from harvest fest has been put to use during our monthly meetings.

Thanks for ordering glasses jim, I think that will be a nice option for people.

I'm not saying "don't buy

I'm not saying "don't buy more"; in fact, I'm fully aware that more will need to be purchased. I'm simply asking to consider what we already have before determining the *amount* to buy.

CHAOS glasses would be

CHAOS glasses would be awesome, and they are the right serving size for moderating alcohol intake. People should have a larger cup for water. We should make sure people hydrate. Asking people to try 20 stouts is asking for trouble.

Jim, we'll do an inventory of party supplies prior to the Jan. club meeting. We can wait till after then to purchase plates and cups. I assume that is also true of food.

I know there was much talk

I know there was much talk about the heating situation outside yesterday at the meeting.  I know someone who owns a party rental business and has both the propane umbrella heaters and a propane furnance style heater if the tents have the side walls up.  I varified that he has both styles today and I can approach him on pricing if you would like me to.  Not sure what the budget was for this, but if there is one I can approach him regarding pricing if you would like.

I have a couple propane

I have a couple propane heaters if you want to borrow them.  They are the portable kind that can hook up to bottles or a larger tank.  I think they are called Mr Heater Big Buddy or something along those lines.  They have the ceramic elements and are pretty safe, they shut off if they are bumped or anything.  They are down at my cabin, but I will be down there next week, so let me know and I can pick them up.

Rich, that would be awesome

Rich, that would be awesome if you could bring those back. It should save us a good amount on rental fees, but if it's not enough we can always get more. I may be able to borrow some larger ones from my customers (contractors) if they're not in use at a jobsite that weekend.

I created an event page for Stout & Chili Night (http://www.chaosbrewclub.net/event/chaos-stout-chili-night)

Since we are using seasonal events as membership drives, I thought it would be cool to list events and classes we have going in January. Especially for prospective members taking advantage of the 30 day trial Apprentice account.

Our calendar is thin, so I made some shit up. We should firm up the schedule for January before blasting invites out and directing a bunch of traffic to this page.

Ok, I will pick them up.  Do

Ok, I will pick them up.  Do you have a tank or two, or do I need to grab one?  Now that I think of it, I have a tree that fits into a regular propane tank that you can put a lantern on top of and run the heater off of it at the same time.  I'll grab that and a lantern too, it's a pretty handy set-up and may keep you from needing to run cords for lights.

We have around 10-15, 20lb

We have around 10-15, 20lb tanks we need to get filled up. How many do you think you need? Evan, if you get your heaters, do they run off propane?

Speaking of which, can someone birng them to a filling station? Its cheaper if they are brougth to a filing station (uhaul has them) than to exchange.

Food should be the biggest cost - $300ish
